Ramair filter arrived...

What causes the chirping noise (it sounds metallic) and does it cause any harm beside sound? How does air induction cause a sound like metal hitting together? I got DRMD's Ramair and I like the exhaust sound volumn (minus the metallic chirp) but don't want to damage the engine. Could a dyno reduce or eliminate the unwanted noise? Anyone know of someone in the Dallas Tx area that does a good dyno and tune for the Rocket? Thanks for any info.

I'm not hearing any crickets or chirping, just a roar that sounds a bit like the exhaust note only louder when the throttle is wide open. Quite like it .

The chirping is not caused by the filter. It's always there, but the stock intake completely smothers the sound.
Not sure what it's from, annoying but harmless.
Doubt a dyno tune will make it go away.
I've read in old posts it's the valve train resonating/clattering at certain frequencies, ~2000-2300 rpm.
I have triple K&N's I always thought it sounded like metallic crickets ;-)

Thanks JRock for the info. As long as I am not hurting engine I can live with the chirping. I have a stock muffler that has been opened up and sounded good before the Ramair but now has very good improvement over what it had with muffler only. I think I may coat inside of the air cover with black silicone and see if it quites down the crickets.

there are a couple of guys that used sound deadening material, not sure how it worked out

I've enjoyed reading these posts, I found all of the information very valuable. I originally just stopped in to compare k&n vs ram air. And got more than expected. I bought a Reband exhaust and when advised to pair it with a k&n system, I oops'd and put in an under seat stock replacement. My bad! Had a dyno tune done, to my regrettable distruction of my new chrome pipes. I only saw a gain of 10 hp(I was very disappointed). But when you don't have access to the real talent, I wish I could say you get what you pay for. It may have been more cost effective to cross the pond!

Is that from the stock to full Reband exhaust?
