ramair cracked

RamAir has redesigned the throttle body mounts to address the cracking issue. All new filters come with the updated design. Check out the new thread on this. Thanks to everyone who has provided feedback and suggestions to RamAir on how to improve the original design!

AHHHH ***EM---- I bought UNI Filters for a quarter of the cost of the Ram-***n-air filter and have better flow.

Oh I will sell my unused series one Ramai
Im interested, quarter of the cost for me is 25GBP, how much more flow?
The Uni filters are a more agricultural type of filter as in very simple and have a larger surface area. Can get them on eBay I think.

It's prob a daft question to some of you mechanical boffins, but apart from the storage space gained by installing a Ramair filter and removing the original ducting, what is gained?? surely the bore of the air delivery on the standard plenum, is plenty adequate ?---not being argumentative--- just asking..?.:)

Standard air filtration is inadequate especially if you upgrade your exhaust and allow the engine to breath. Thats an easy 30-40hp and relatively cheap.

Air has friction too. It will stick to the sides of a duct and behave in any number of interesting ways one doesn't expect as a layman (I'm a layman too in this case). Essentially air and water behave quite similarly, just at entirely different speeds (and this is a gross oversimplification, I'm sure.)

Lots of twists, turns and surface to pass over (as in a duct) will definitely change how the air flows compared to just having one filter right there on the throttle bodies where they can just suck in as much air as they need.

"Drinking straight from the glass rather than through a straw?" :)

i am like you
until some one with an air flow machine comes and measures these different systems or until some one on a dyno plays with these air filters with out doing any thing else i will stick with stock. the stock system pulls in cool air(more volume than hot) as apposed to pulling air from around the engine (as a guess up to around 30 mph) after that the ramair might be better.
but until some one checks this it is all just guessing.

While I don't recall having seen a dyno graph comparing the stock intake setup to RamAir with no other modifications, I'm led to believe that RamAir + TORs should net you about 20-25 RWHP. I haven't dynoed my bike yet, so I can only share my "butt dyno" experiences. When I installed TORs with the stock intake, the observed power gain was pretty marginal. However, when I first rode my bike yesterday with RamAir added, there was a definitive "holy cr*p" moment, and I hadn't been grinning as much since I first bought the bike :D

I don't care much about the added storage space under the seat, but for me another big selling point was getting rid of the stock intake plumbing, which is a PITA every time you need to service the valves or something else under the tank.

I believe @Neville Lush and any number of performance engine builders when they say more of the right mix of air and fuel in and out generally means more power. I run the Ramair as Neville posted on here after doing a test on his dyno on a stock engine with performance exhaust system. The Ramair is within 1 or 2 hp of the triple filters. I like the the O2 sensor inside the filter and the fact that it's under the claw. Others prefer the triple filters and a cut claw. I'm sure either way is a big improvement over stock.
