Mikewd get yourself a Dobeck Performance AFR Plus. It controls the AFR much better than the ecu. It adds power, economy and reduced the heat on your right leg. It will also help reduce or eliminate the decal pop. I have it on mine and love it.

Power-Tripp, I would just like to thank you again, applied this tune on my R3 Touring this afternoon, took her for a short spin and the difference is amazing? Idle is way better, I can drive slower speeds in 5th, and as I drove, the DTE kept climbing and climbing as I drove. It runs smoother, quieter. Can't wait to get a few hundred more miles on. Thanks again!!

I don't think he frequents the forums anymore, more's the pity, and the power-tripp.com domain appears to have expired so he has no web presence anymore either (hope he's just retired and lazing about in the sun) but I agree, it's like getting a new and better motorcycle. Especially when you want to go fast and rev the engine to 6k there's no comparison to the nasty stock map.

Well, I am out of warranty and dropped the Tripp tune in. Amazing difference. Quieter, smoother, quicker, cooler, idles perfect, and runs balls out if needed. What is Triumph thinking holding the R3T back? It took me a while to get the courage to trust myself to do this, but the TuneECU for Dummies really helped me out. New tires next week: Avon Cobras from Chaparral. Wow.

Ladies and gents,
I have had more than a few calls about Touring model performance. This should help out more than a few of you.

The Touring models are the same except for the exhaust and ECU calibration. BOTH are very restricted. The ECU controls the secondary throttles and actually closes them at higher rpm and higher gears. In the exhaust, the header is the same, but the box after the header is very restrictive. Slip-ons (TORS and D&D) really don't do much except for sound.

Neither do air filters under the seat. Triple K&N RU-2780 filters make a bit more from 4000-5500 rpm, but have the same peak power output as the stock air filter. The stock intake plenum and ducting actually makes more torque under 3000 rpm than triple RU-2780 filters under the bearclaw. It is not until you go to a full exhaust system that the RU-2780 filters make a difference.

A stock R3T or one with a slip-on exhaust tends to make ~86 hp on my dyno (~ 13% lower than a Dynojet), and 130-131 ft-lb of torque. Simply re-calibrating the ECU (mapping) tends to result in 115-117 hp, and 140-142 ft-lb of torque. A very nice improvement.

Attached is a "tune" for stock and slip-on exhaust R3T models, as well as a graph of output differences. Dashed lines are torque. Red is an R3T with TORS and stock air filter. Yellow is after tuning. This resulted in 43+ mpg cruising at 70 mph on 87 octane fuel. Speedo corrected for stock tire. Speed limiter raised. Ignition timing improved in lower gears. ENJOY!

You can also find this map on Tom Hamburg's TuneECU.com site under the custom Triumph tunes section.

I just became the proud owner of a 2011 Rocket 3 tourer, less than 24 hours ago. I want to maximize performance. I'd like to add a short 3-into-1 exhaust pipe under my right saddle bag, ( hopefully, without melting my saddle bag on that side ). On the subject of "Remapping"? How do I learn how to "remap"? I download a tuning program? Tuning software? Download it to my home computer? And, then what? How do I apply it to the Rocket 3, after I've downloaded the tuner software? Does the Triumph have a olug-in on it somewhere? Or, must I remove something from the bike, then re-install it after recalibration? Can I do this myself? Or, shpuld I pay a professional to do it? How much would that probably cost me? Thanks for your great advice, and all your suggestions. Seems l have a lot to learn..... aviation1972

Do a search on TuneECU, there is a ton of info about it, but in a nutshell - it is a software programme available for either PC or 'Droid. Pc is free, Droid is a small charge - but well worth it. A cable to connect to your bike will set yuo ha back about $20. Once you have those things you plug it all into the OBDII connector which is next to the battery. From there you can read the tune that is in your bike, load a new tune into your bike, and do a whole bunch of diagnostics and service work. It would be the best tool you can get for your bike.

Here is a good thread on it:

I, too, have a 2011 Touring. Don't buy any exhaust until you receive the recommendations of the experts here, which you should follow. I used Tuneecu to install powertripp's map (with help from Hanso) and it's also useful for balancing the throttle bodies and calibrating the TPS. Tuneecu is free and has its own website. Search that term on this forum to generally educate yourself about it then you can ask specific. My advice is to ask for advice HERE before you do anything. I don't know enough to give more reliable advice than that.

I would not put anything on my bike (it's also a 2011 R3T) without first studying the posts about it on this forum and asking any remaining questions of the experts here. Rockets are a unique bike and people who might be outstanding with other bikes will probably give bad advice to you about your Rocket. That certainly includes exhausts.

Kmutt, and everyone else, I am just glad to help fellow Rocket riders. AND I am tired of hearing how the Touring models will barely outrun Harleys. This should change the game for many of you and may be all you need for performance for a while.

Give me a little time to finish up the testing on the new exhaust and intake and we will really change the bolt-on performance results. ;)
First, I want thanks Power-tripp for this awesome info. Just picked up my 13 R3T. Looking to hop it up a bit. And info here is just great. However, when following the link to snatch up a cable, it seems it's only compatible up to '12. I'm hoping it's just an out of date text on the discription. Has anyone else had luck with a newer model with this cable?
