R3R - stalling issue?

Only a guess but I reckon the tune they have in the new derestricted models may be a tad and then after you have been cruising around for a while the O2 sensor has leaned it of even more, just as an experiment try doing a 12 minute tune and see if it goes away for a while, just a thought ... I could be wrong but it wont hurt to do the 12 min tune and see if the problem does go away for a while and if so you may just have see if someone like Wayne Tripp can come up with a Fixit tune :)

Probably a stupid question Hanso, but if the ECU is locked out like some say it is on the 13's and greater, can another tune be downloaded to it?

I can't be sure but I thought it was mentioned that only some of the other model Triumphs had locked ECU's but not the Rocket, I think it was Tom Hamburg that said this, not 100% sure but I think was him maybe shoot him a PM to check, if so there might be way around by using a PCV or Dobeck , either of which as they don't actually talk to the ECU just intercept and change the info going to the injectors but again you would need to check it would be possible with an Expert such as Wayne Tripp

Thanks Hanso!! :D

I guess for now its Triumphs problem to figure out, the hard part will be convincing them there's a problem!

Just found this thread.
Interesting. I'm experiencing the same problems. Shut down three times during deceleration / engine braking. Don't know of any particular reason, not blipping the throttle, and occasionally see the oil light even when it doesn't die.

Taking it in for the 500 mile service tomorrow. Will post anything helpful.

Just about every new model (Trophy/Tiger Explorer/the small triples) are LOCKED DOWN. At a guess the bulk of Triumphs sales and the models that are now in production.

I've a mate who specialises in other bikes and he's saying that all performance parts Co's are holding off on announcing ANTHING for 2014 bikes right now.

According to Tom/Alain - R3's UP TO M/Y 2013 are supported. Wayne Tripp posted that 2103+ are locked down.

How many of these with probbies are M/Y2014? .

Take off the right side panel - the ECU is there and should have the MAP number marked on it. If it matches a map in the list on Tom/Alains sit then MAYBE there's a solution there. I SAID MAYBE. If you connect TuneECU and it's NOT then the ECU will have to go back to Triumph - not the dealer.

GIVE YOUR DEALERS MERRY HELL - WRITE TO THE M/C MAGAZINE EDITORS. Then Triumph will do SOMETHING. The minute it hurts sales - they'll move.

But they'll not be unlocking - well they might but then they'll be unavailable in the EU.
The minute a fix is available at dealers - it'll be public. This would almost certainly result in legal pressure PAN- EU to change the lockdown or retire the model. Given the R3's production age - retirement is not unthinkable.

A Piggy-back device might well turn out to be necessary.

That or maybe one of the Dyno Gods finds a way to make them work with an older ECU.

Hi Gary! Sorry to hear you too are experiencing stalling. Mine is going in Tuesday morning and I will post the results asap. Hopefully, with both bikes being looked at we'll find the culprit and put an end to this problem.

May the Force be with us!!!

Tom

My date of manufacture is listed as 12/12. I presume that's a 2013 model. And you're saying the ECU is locked on the '13's? Bummer.

Are you saying I'm SOL? Ugh! Thanks for info, Barbagris
If it were me - I'd pressure the dealer saying it's unfit for road use. Embellish a bit - tell then you were nearly rear-ended etc. Tell them POINT BLANK you know it's NOT JUST YOUR BIKE. The internet makes things like this very visible.

Suggest unless it's fixed you want your money back. See if they have an older model.

tbh I' was half thinking of moving to something different (maybe a Trophy or Guzzi Norge) - but anything new (that interests me) here IS now locked down. So I'll wait until I see what problems raise their heads.

Good point! I agree, it truly is a safety concern if the bike stalls in the traffic lane.
