R3R - stalling issue?

I'm not sure what the set up process is, it doesnt sound like checking the ECU is part of it
Place I bought my R3 from checked it over pre-sales and at 1000kms. Place that did the first year service did too - they'd normally reload but realised my map is not standard so lied about reloading it on the service form ;)

Been sitting here at the dealer for 3 hrs, the tech says that every time they enter the new settings into the computer the bike defaults back to the original settings, he is on the phone now trying to reach Triumph USA on a Saturday, this doesn't look good....:(

Strange that the dealer can't make adjustments. ECU automatically resetting itself... could be a firmware problem with the ecu. Nothing else makes any sense. They may have to replace the ecu. Don't get discouraged. No damage has been done and this can be fixed. :)

I just installed tor silencers and had the tor tune downloaded. Bike runs great - sounds better too. No more stumbling / almost stalliing during downshifts. This bike impresses me more and more each time I take it for a run. I'm still going to download a map with tune ecu as soon as I get my cable. :D I'll provide an update when done.

Hope you get on the road soon.
Gary

Update;

Soooo while he was on hold with Triumph for 25+ minutes I went outside for a few, when I came back in he said I was all set, I asked what Triumph said, he said he never spoke to anyone over there, that the tech had got it to work and I was all set:confused:

I'm currently at the local tavern having a cold one, I'll let you all know how it runs when I get home...

Very interested to hear more about this. Thanks for taking the time to post your experiences. Pretty sure I'll be dealing with this as mine's a late 2013. I'll be on this thread too as soon as this problem rears it's ugly head.

The bike ran fine on the way home by the way, I didn't notice any differences at all actually. Since the bike has only died twice in 800 miles, probably would have noticed a difference anyway.. I was hoping more that the adjustments would take care of the slight vibration at 2800 rpms and above, which they clearly did not..,

I told her I loved her for the first time yesterday, the feeling that I'm cheating on my Old R3T with another woman is finally starting to pass... ;)

Hello,

I am a new Rocket III Roadster owner, just picked up my 2013 model last week.

I am experiencing the same symptoms as others have described: erratic stalling, when downshifting. Engine our outside temperature does not seem to have an effect.

The stalling always seems to happen, when downshifting from 3rd to second gear (will pay extra attention when I ride next time).

Couldn't this be a clue? Why wouldn't it happen e.g. from fourth to third? Is there a gear position sensor that could be involved?

Greetings from Colorado,
Armin

I would take it in, and have them run the diagnostics on it, and at least that way you will have the problem on record and Triumph USA will be notified.

Maybe if they hear about this problem enough theyll at least put out a service bulletin or something....

Is this mostly 2013 Roadsters with the new map that has open secondaries? Just wondered if that has anything to do with it.

I had a 2009 Classic before trading it for a 2011 Touring.

The Classic stalled now and then, usually coming to a stop at a T junction changing from 3rd to 2nd gear.

The first time it stalled I was on a large housing estate, weaving in and out of the sleeping policemen, and it just stalled. Would not start to around 15 minutes, the time it took me to remove the seat and look for any loose wires.

Then it did it at junctions, got me quite worried, thinking what would happen in the the 3rd lane, doing 70 mph on a 4 lane motorway with cars either side.

When I had it serviced the technician said it was idling on the high side and they dropped the idle speed, maybe the previous owner had upped the idle speed?

I had it die on an approach to a roundabout, as the clutch was pulled in, luckily managed to restart it on the starter button

Not had it happen on the Touring yet.
