Questions about R3T stock tire...

I have had good luck running a few PSI over max rating on my tires, especially the front. I am on my second set of Excedra Max tires now and that seems to prevent the cupping. The extra hard center stripe on MC tires these days tends to be a bonus and prevents the chicken strip of yesteryear, but now the regular strength or softer rubber on the sides tends to wear much faster than the center does. The extra PSI helps to prevent that for us upright riders...

I'm a little over 10,000 km on my 14 T. Front metz is cupped bad and rear is down to wear bar. I have Avon Cobras on order. Was a great update on my 05. I run the front about 4lb over recommended pressure.

From Dunlop's website regarding MC tire cupping:

How can I keep my tires from cupping?

You may not be able to entirely avoid cupping. Tire cupping or irregular wear is a somewhat common occurrence on all vehicles. On a four-wheel vehicle, you are advised to rotate your tires periodically to even out wear. Unfortunately, you do not have this luxury with a motorcycle because front and rear tires, unlike those on most four-wheel vehicles, are not interchangeable.

However, there are steps that can be taken to minimize cupping and uneven wear on a motorcycle: Maintain your motorcycle and particularly your front and suspension. Avoid hard braking whenever possible. Braking causes the tire to grab and wear in one direction. When braking is applied to the front tire, the load transfer over-flexes the tire and increases the tendency for cupping and uneven wear. Maintain your tire pressures. Under inflation and overloading of motorcycle tires are significant causes of cupping and uneven wear, particularly in association with hard braking and/or trailer use.

Once a tire begins to show signs of uneven wear, even following these steps may not improve the condition.

Tire companies can, and are, helping to minimize cupping and uneven wear but you, the rider, must do your part. Following the aforementioned guidelines will help avoid uneven wear.

When I ran Metzzlers the front tire always bcupped within 3000 miles, but I've run rears down to steel cords showing and never had cupping, seems like something's wrong there.

If you have to run Metz front tyres, then make sure the air pressure is always at the maximum written on the tyre or they will cup.

Ran Metzler Marathons on my Goldwing and Concours. Never an issue with rear tire cupping. Certainly on the front.

I have found them to be decent high mileage tires. But, I was considering a change on the wing, possibly to Michelins, before I sold it.

Metzlers seem to need air pressure checked a bit more often.
