any one got experience on what the benefits etc.. to fitting the front progressive springs to the R3

the extracep site are listing them at not a bad price and i'm due to have my bottom forks re coated and thought about have these

any info for a un educated person like me, i would value the feedback

Have not got them fitted to the Rocket (yet), but had Progressive springs in the forks of my Harley Fatboy.

It made a hell of a difference on that bike - the front stopped diving on braking, the whole bike seemed to lower itself evenly instead. Also, I found cornering was smoother too, with bumps evened out.

I plan to fit them to the Rock as soon as my forks come off for a powder coat.

I have a new set sitting in the garage just waiting on installation. Its time for a new front rubber so I guess I will try to install them next week when I have the wheel off.

I've read the instructions several times and I believe I will remove the forks and do them that way. No short cuts on this one. I think oil level is going to be the touchy part.

Skidmark,

I can't comment on just replacing the fork springs, but I did have 418's and fork springs replaced about a week ago. Man what a difference! The chicken strips on my rear tire are gone. Turning is much more neutral; the "felt" ammount of counter steering seems to be cut in half. I was worried about how soon I was going to have to replace my rear tire due to the ever increasing amount of counter steer required as the tire wore down, but not now. Wallowing after mid corner bumps is gone. And I've only begun dialing in the set-up.

Mr. Todd:
No issues with the fork springs. I did have a problem with the (STD) 440's being a little light for 2-up and a bike with a lot of "plastic". You know how I pack for a trip...... heavy. I changed to the 440 Heavy duty, all good now.

wiffmajig, what does the fork spring tool look like? Do the forks have to come off the bike for install? I installed them on my old bike but it did'nt have the inverted forks, just took the top cap off and pulled the spring out the top.

Good Info

I've got the manual too, pdf, just have to find it now....

I put 440s and Springs on my Speedmaster at the same time, amazing
improvement.

Now I've just done the 13" HD 440s on my Rocket, again very nice...
but I'm thinking to see the same level of improvement I need to do the
Springs too. (A **very** simple task on a Speedmaster).

btw... I do notice the Rock is a bit taller now with the 13" 440s. :)
