Thanks guys, I think I finally got it! I will get the pipes installed and then get the tuneboy and play with that to "fine" tune and squeeze the extra power I am missing out of my bike and correct the speedo. This is a great site. Hopefully I can be helping people before long as I learn about this bike......Craig
 
Jardines

I need some help guys. I want to change my pipes. I have researched and it seems that I would probably like the sound of the Jardines the best. My nearest dealer talked me out of those and said the TOR pipes are the way to go because there is a Triumph tune ready for those pipes? Then you get free updates when available etc. I know alot of you have the pciii and tuneboy. I guess I am just overwhelmed as to what to do? I would like to tap into the power this bike should have as I live at 5000'. Would I have to get the pipes with the pciii with a tune preset for those pipes and then get the tuneboy and correct the speedo and change the secondaries? Then would I need to get the bike dyno tuned to really dial it in with the pciii? Does the pciii work well? I know from reading that it can't correct the speedo or fix the secondaries but is that something I can do by myself or do I have to take it to a tuneboy tuner? Sorry for rambling I just am confused as to what route to go. Maybe getting the Triumph pipes would be easier as There is a factory tune for them?

Just got back from the Baxter (Marne, Iowa) Rally. Could only make it for Sunday, next year I will make it an overnighter. I never saw so many R3's in my life, pretty kool.....Spoke to RobbieRob who is a member and who also won 1st place in the judging contest (congrats RobbieRob!!!) who had the Jardines and had him fire it up and love the sound. I talked to Gus w/baxter who is very knowledgeable about R3's and stated that you don't need the performance upgrades other than the standard Triumph tune which offers the custom pipe tune. He stated that you get 20 hp with the jardine pipes and 23 hp with the triumph tune. So after all is said and done you get 43 hp more on top of the stock bike just by changing the pipes and tune.....wow.... I couldn't believe it. The bike is fast enough, not. So I have ordered the pipes and Jardine is 4-6 weeks out. Oh well the $1k investment is worth the wait. I am upgrading and love the sound. In my case, I can sell my cat-by-pass and stock pipes and re-coup some of the cost. Some of the issues that Gus brought up was the O2 sensor, you need to keep to be able to allow the bike to adjust to maximum efficient operating conditions, sounded reasonable to me. I am not an expert, however, check with Gus at Baxter in Marne, Iowa and he will be glad to help with your questions.

I was just as shocked to here Gus say it as you probably read it... If you have questions, call Gus @ 712.781.2351, he is a really good guy and knows his stuff, just wish the distance was closer, but the 422 mile r/t ride Sunday was worth it. I would call Gus, he is only a phone call away. That throttlemeister is also worth the expense, saves the right hand on long rides. One of the Corp Triumph guys at the rally also wanted to install Jardines on his R3, but was looking for a used set. Go figure!!!!!

Just put on the triumph TORS and cat. box removed. Sound great performance is just ok. I get alot of popping on deexcelleration. I spoke to triumph mechanic and he states that it is because of no back pressure. I was told on a form it is because the fuel is to lean. I don't know but I think I need a tuneboy tune.

Clearly some confusion. You might get 23 hp over bone stock with jardines but there is NO Triumph tune available which will work with the jardines. You will need a PCIII to tune it properly or the Tuneboy program, which is another can of worms discussed ad nauseum on these forums.

Of course there's back pressure, just less than stock, which is why it runs leaner.
