Painting Radiator Caps on Roadster

Hello all. I want to have my bear claw powder coated to match my oil reservoir. (guy told me it would be easier to match than the phantom black). Additionally I want to paint my radiator shroud. I read on another post to rub its surface with a Brillo pad and then put a primer on(?). The problem I am having is final color. Do I use a flat black, or gloss black? Has anyone done this before? I just want to get rid of some of the bling, but I obviously want the colors to flow. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer on colors and/or lessons learned from doing it.

I "think" the color on the oil reserve is called (by Triumph) Jet Black,
the color of an '06 Rocket I believe.
I know the Phantom has metallic flakes in it,
so yea, I'd assume the solid would be easier and for sure cheaper.
Far as "scratching" the chrome on the rad shroud.
Don't really scratch it,
just dull it, if that makes sense.
Just enough that the paint will adhere to it and stay.
I wouldn't use a brillo pad, I'd use a fine emery cloth myself.
Post pics when ya get er done.

Thanks for the reply and info. This takes a lot of the guess work out of it. I thought about painting the claw too, but with my limited painting skills, i think I am probably better off having it powdercoated for 60 bucks, and focus on painting the shroud. I will post some pics once completed.

depending what you want to spend but I have seen the radiator shrouds Black Nickle Plated ... was fantasic like Black Chrome.. very classsy a fellow here goes by the name DV8 I think was the owner of the bike

I'd go for satin myself (on the radiator shroud). It's what I've used on a few bits (horn cover, ignition switch cover, pillion peg chrome triangle thingy, radiator grill) and it has more 'life' than matt without being shiny. I just cleaned up the chrome surface, didn't even dull it, and it sticks just fine - almost 2 years on with some of it. It's called RUST-OLEUM Universal - Paint and Primer In One, satin black. Fast drying, no runs. Has a US patient so I presume you can get it there.

I didnt realize the oil tank on the R3R was mat black. This helps with wondering what color will match. Thanks bruce.

I see your bike listed is a R3R mat black and you are recommending Satin. I looked under your photos and saw a pic of your beast with the blacked out radiator. The color looks good on your bike.

Thank you all for the advice and input.....I will probably try the Satin first, and if it doesnt flow well on her, I will try the flat/matt. Either way, I will post some pics once completed.
