Steve, wasn't it you that followed up with your dealer about that crappy performing Michelin, only to find out that they had some defective versions of the tire in the marketplace.
As you know, I could have gotten 10K miles out of mine had I not replaced it prematurely in order to mount a mattced pair of Ex. Maxes (130 in front). Trust me, guys, when I say that I am a very aggressive rider, so it just doesn't compute that I would get orders of magnitude better mileage on a tire that Michelin themselves tout as a high mileage tire, unless the ones you had were defective in some way. Paul Bryant over in NZ had the same experience as you both, BTW.
