Oil Leak / Pinhole in block

Had the same thing happen to my 05. Had a choice of replacing the engine housing or the dealer said he could do what Tripp said, repair the hole. I chose to replace the engine housing. Wrong decision, engine taken all apart and leaked in other places after it was put back together. Repair the hole and keep riding it. My 05 was less than a year old when this happened

The bike has been back to the dealer no less than 6 times in 8 weeks, for idling issues, check engine light issues, throttle body adjustments and Stepper motor problems.

And now this?

I'm not exactly in the frame of mind to accept anything less than a new bike, fortunately my dealer is on my side and has been extremely apologetic and supportive.

I realize a new bike is a pipe dream, but I am interested to see how Triumph handles the problem

might as well give my opinion. i would tell them new bike,new eng or repair with 100,000 mile gaurantee. i have used jb weld on alu trans cases it tends to work pretty good as long as its not under pressure and is not in a stress spot. i can't tell where that spot is but alu tends to expands when it gets hot that might be a problem depending on where it is at.
i hope they treat you right,but if they don't just keep your touring and don't pay for the roadster.

You'd think Triumph would want that engine back, so they could tear it apart and see what went wrong. "Unless" they have given up on the Rocket line all together, and are just trying to cut their losses. Maybe they don't care if they have had some casting flaws, as they aren't expecting to cast any more. Who knows? They have a great motorcycle in the Rocket, just need to get more people to ride one.

I'd be pushing for a new bike. Even if you don't think they'll do it, just keep saying it and don't even hint you'd accept anything else. You never know.

Tell us how the old girl's going in comparison to the Roadster (problems aside, if you can). The bike,the bike.

I think I'd be pushing for a new bike.

If it was an old bike out of warranty I would suggest hitting the pin hole with a centre punch. This would most likely stop the leak if it's not under pressure.

Here is the Email I received from the dealer today. I will be calling Triumph next week to see if I can make any headway with them.....

We cleaned it up and threw some powder on your head and its defiantly coming from the head. I got a hold of Triumph finally and they want us to replace the head. I let him know you were pretty upset with the bike. When you call customer service ask for Peter. He is the supervisor. So I will be ordering a head and gaskets, and a stepper motor.

New head is a easy change as you do not have to pull the engine. One day job two if you never done it before. less then one if you have pulled them as much as I have as witha scope you would not even have to pull the front clutch cover.

The leak is coming from either a pinhole or a small crack in the head.
