Well I measured the oil in the same manner both times and there is a large difference in the oil level. Yes, checking the oil is a *****, but if done the same way per the manual then the levels should be the same if no oil consumption.
After 8 500 miles, I can tell that my engine is burning a bit of oil. I was very concerned, but now as the bike is running so good, I do not care. I checked oil about every 200 miles during one year. Oil consumption is close to 0.24 liters per 1 000 km ( equivalent to 0.41 quarter every 1 000 miles).
There is no leak, there is no fume, and this is the first time I have a engine consuming oil.
Now I am adding oil about every 1 000 miles and do not think and bother anymore.
It was quite surprising for me, as my previous R3 (2006 to 2013) was not consuming any oil.
However, it is better to burn a bit of oil than loosing rear brake, or having a crack in the engine during a ride or to be burnt with the bike when fueling after a long ride because of the bad design of the tank.
Do not worry, some guys will tell you that you are dreaming, or you are not measuring your oil consumption properly or that is impossible. There are a very few numbers of R3 2.5 which are consuming oil. Mine was built in UK, probably one Friday or Monday morning.
Have fun and do not forget oil
