OIL ANALYSIS OF CHEAP OIL

Certainly you're analysis shows no adverse effects from the slightly lower viscosity. When I change my oil at 10k, I'll send a sample to Blackstone (although I'm not sure what the dealership put in at my first service). I'll fill it with some of the expensive stuff and compare the two (in another 10k miles).

Reactions: MIG
The viscosity numbers only apply at the extremes, high and low temperatures. At normal operating temperatures, theoretically, all should have the same viscosity.

But what does it mean when my numbers are lower than the average in relation to wear? Will call blackstone in a few.

Here is the result of my phone call.
1. All brands of oil with same weight should have about the same viscosity.
2. Viscosity numbers are generally not a big concern unless extreme numbers.
3. Fuel in oil not a concern unless over 2%. ( mine was .o8%) lots of short trips will be higher. I do many short trips.
4. Added anti wear ingredients don't result in less wear from their samples.
5. Don't see any problem with oil, great wear numbers

As I suspected, Cheap oil wins!!

You appear to change oil at 10k, I do at 5I. I would think that makes a difference in wear numbers.
I will send expensive oil in on next change just to compare.

you never know the expense oil might show a lot less wear?

so if u change every 5000 miles in 50,000 u would change 10 times
do not know how much more it would cost to put a well known brand but lets say it is $50 more a change
u r talking $500 more in 50,000 miles.
correct if wrong

Numbers now are less than half the average. If even better with expensive oil, not worth paying more cause you don't benefit. Am I keeping bike up to 400k miles?
Splitting hairs I have no time for.

i am just giving you a hard time because i know that since u have retired u have a lot of spare time on your hands and u need to find a way
to occupy your time

Haha. But buying more expensive oil takes no more time than cheap oil?!
