Unwritten, at the core of this thread is a fundamentally defective corporate policy when it comes to Triumph providing consistently appropriate and proper customer service. To me it seems to be a policy defined by their selective application of the consideration of and/or relief for the burdens of factory induced or engineered mechanical failures and breakdowns, coupled with a very purposeful neglect to properly address these very same things. This observation does not even include their shabby handling of a necessary maintenance item (greasing the splines) which I think they still fail to mention in their owner's and shop manuals or the failure to make good on a rash of faulty parts (ignition, TPS, much of what comprises the "update" kit, bad starter on earlier models, etc.) Also, from where I sit, the dealership network here in the USA can best be described as "thin" and not particularly robust in terms of their ability to diagnose problems, source parts and make repairs in a straightforward manner.

Don't get me wrong, I do love The Beast, I still have respect for the Triumph Marque, but the modern day iteration of Triumph Motorcycle, corporately, especially its very poorly managed Triumph America, TTD (USA) subsidiary, leaves an awful lot to be desired, IMHO.

Kinda hard to say the gearboxes are crap when you have people like Warp 9.9 with a supercharged Carpenter engine making many times the original horsepower and his is no trailer queen. It gets ridden. Last I knew it had something like 60,000 miles (96,000 km's). Look at the Carpenter Silverback. Any tranny that can drag an 800 lb. motorcycle through the 1/4 mile in 8.99 seconds probably isn't made of chocolate.

and for those reasons triumphphil i have decided to call it a day and move on , i can do without the embuggerance and financial costs of repairing stuff that they know is wrong, Triumph , just another faceless corporate organisation , cutting corners during R&D , and then ignoring it. A mate has a 1200 se touring flagship , its getting a new ecu and a new cylinderhead fitted, he has done 3500 miles, factory recall , it maybe that they have learnt from past mistakes but i dont think so, the recall is decided by the dealer network . It seems hinckley delegaters their responsibilty to dealers on making decisions regarding poor engineering or faulty equipment, now that is piss poor in my book.
Also the sidestand bends so it needs bracing with an additional bracket,,, the R&D department need shooting , how did they miss that.

I've vented enough for one day. As Dan said, most of this, if not all of these issues, pretty much appear to fall on deaf ears with the Triumph organization.


We all reserve the right to vote with our feet, so right now, I'm walking downstairs, putting on my gear and mounting up to go get my ya-yas out on my ride of choice, The Belle of the Balll, the Beast among Beasts, my Rocket III. Nothing else in the marketplace right now can deliver what I want out of a two-wheeled vehicle.

You guys can vent all you want, my 04 still going strong with no major issues, sorry for all the trouble caused by some bad bikes and the frustration is understandable, my son bought a Cadillac a few years ago and that car was a lemon, swore that i would stay away from Cadillac from then on

dont take my frustration personally, when it works i love the bike , but to be bitten twice is unfortunate . I shall sell the rocket at a loss to allow the repair work to be covered by next owner , but my decision has been made , i spend 8 to 9 months a year overseas in some real ****ty places and when i come home i want to play and not be confronted by problems and dramas. Right now i would rather rub tobasco sauce in my eyes than look at the bike , i really am dissapointed i shall soon gracefully withdraw from the forum which has been very useful and entertaining and wish all its users the best of luck and safe riding with no mechanical gremlins.
