My Moto Hobo life

And I suggest NOT showing them @DEcosse testing.

If they can't tell you how they did it, then they didn't do it, and then we tested the R/R, WTF: when DEcosse says it can't be done, then they didn't do it.

Burned into my memory was a cross country trip in a run-down 1971 Jaguar E-Type Series III V-12. Houston to Boston.

Was having some challenges with the electrical system, so pulled into a station with a mechanic on duty - raised the bonnet - clearly nothing he had ever seen.

"Well, let's check the regulator" he says. The engine is running, and he proceeds to disconnect the battery.

I don't know on what vehicles this is a smart thing to do, but the regulator promptly blew, with pop, smoke and all.

Guy looks up at me, "Your regulator is bad."

I said, "Yep, YOU just blew it." I demanded a full charge of the battery, and drove the car (precursor to electrics ?) and that battery lasted as long as a tank of fuel, and had to be careful to stop where I could get a charge along with the fuel. I changed my route to stop by the one place in the US in eastern New York that stocked parts for Jaguars. Headlights were right out - and spent the night in the car in the parking lot of a place that looked like it would have a charge when they opened in the morning. Made it to the parts place; they had the part, I changed it in the parking lot, and continued on my way.

Oct 11th: Got invited by Turbo200R4 to retrieve bike from Mikes Bikes and make a 270 mile run to Tucson to work on it in his shop.
Incredible gesture - good for you

@tribal - Just hope that they don't try to stick you with that charge for the stator
Also - once you have it started, if you feel safe riding without headlights on, then pull fuse 10 Fuse 9 (it needs that fuse in to start but once running, you can pull it)
That will help you maintain your running situation. Without the load of the headlights (10A!) it should really extend your range.
alternative #1 to pulling fuse 10 Fuse 9 would be to disconnect the two 4-way headlight connector plugs under the tank at the right side of frame just behind the steering head)
Alternative #2 is if you have a spare 4-pin relay - pull the 5 pin relay behind the right side cover and replace with a 4 pin - this will allow bike to start normally but not allow power to the headlights)

@TURBO200R4 - when it gets there, let me know if you & @tribal need any help in affirming the diagnostics

edit - can't believe I wrote Fuse 10 - should have of course been Fuse 9
