Just kidding. It is really strange that you're the only one consistently putting more gas into the tank than Triumph claims it holds. Maybe you got some sort of beta test tank or something.
 
I am thinking it might be a Tourer... not a Touring. That would explain the difference.

Not too exciting, just my 2009 R3T.

Go to Photo Album, then Member Galleries. Search "dandiego" to find a photo of me at the dealer with my new bike.

It's a run of the mill R3T. And the tank holds 6.3 or 6.4 gallons.

On a side note, I'm meeting a fellow Rocket Rider--and r3owners.net member--this Saturday to put the issue to rest.

I'll fill up in front of him and show that the tank does indeed hold that much fuel.

Looking forward to it Dan! It's not that we/I don't trust you, it is just that nobody else can get 6.3 gallons in there.... You will have to show me the secret.

My service manual says that the standard and classic R3 holds 25 liters, the owners manual says 23.5 liters (6.2 US gallons). I've never had her TOTALLY empty, but I have put 6 gallons in at one time before. Because of this I've always trusted that she does indeed hold every bit of the 6.2 and then some. I don't doubt getting 6.3 in there at all, so I wouldn't bet against it. In fact, if she were bone dry and you filled it to the brim, I think she could hold 6.5.
 

From the picture in your avatar, it looks like you have a R3, not a R3T. The question is about a R3T. A R3 does have a bigger tank, we are not disputing that.

That's what I said I meant to say...

Besides, there is only a 2.7 liter difference in the service specs, and that's only .7 gallons.
If you take into account the probable volume of the airspace designed into it for expansion, the area in the filler neck and that the specs for volume are almost never listed accurately in situations like this... I still wouldn't bet against it.
The R3's have weirder things than this found all over the bikes. And we've all seen the attention to detailed accuracy when it comes to their frames ....
 
6.5 US gallons (with caveat)

OK, boys, I just met up with Super D. Great guy, but then again, you all are. We both agreed that the folks on this forum have been very helpful (that's a shout-out to several guys who have lent their expertise recently, especially HellFire).

So, how did it turn out? With a witness watching, I put 6.51 gallons in my tank. And that was on top of whatever was already in there AND I think I could've put a bit more.

Anyhow, Super D was there and immediately saw the issue. He's thinking the charcoal filter is taking some of the fuel. That just may be, so I'd be interested in hearing some opinions. However, I already ad some fuel in the tank, abd I don't know how big the filter is or how much fuel it holds.

Anyhow, it was a good experience, and I had a beer with a dang nice guy and got to talk Rockets with another Forum Member. I also got some ideas for some new mods to my bike. BTW: Great looking and sounding R3T!

First stupid question. Is the charcoal canister just a California thing? I don't think I have one.

If that's the case I believe flooding the canister will cause it to fail. I have no idea if that will actually cause you a problem or not. I've had them on a couple of BMWs but I always took them off. Not terribly green of me, but I needed the space for other stuff.
