Mileage Test

Hey D., where ya been??

I swapped my D&Ds for Jardines and a new tune courtesy of Mr. Wayne Tripp (that check's in the mail Wayne). The change hasn't been kind to my mileage numbers.

I'm getting low 30's and that's with pretty normal riding. If I really baby it (steady cruise, 65 and below) I can get about 40. I'd say its down about 5 MPG from the D&D setup.

But, if I was concerned about mileage I'd have bought a Bonneville.
 
Rocket Mileage

I really like the comment about the Bonneville. I traded in my beloved '07 T100 Bonny for my R3T. I just think the Rocket is wonderful excess, hang the mileage. Marty

The manual is wrong, and I'm not kidding. I know this has been beat to death, but it's a proven fact--Triumph released incorrect info (a Google search will show that.)

Truly, the 2009 Rocket III Touring has a fuel tank capacity of AT LEAST 6.3 gallons. Dem's da facts!
 
I have to agree with Donivan here. The R3T holds 5.89 US gallons of fuel. The Roadster/Standard/Classic all hold 6.3 US gallons. If you're pumping 6.3 gallons of fuel into your R3T either the pump is wrong, or you're leaving a nice puddle of gas behind.

Could you post the Google results stating the tank holds 6.3 gallons. So far, you're the only one I've heard claim it holds that much. Many feel it holds less because its so hard to fill.

It may be that the 2009 R3T model holds more. I consistently pump over 6 gallons into my bike. I just returned from a 10,000 ride (including 3 Iron But Saddle Sore rides). Numerous pumps along the way reflected 6 + US gallons so I know it's not a fluke.

I'm telling ya, folks, I've had this bike almost a year now and I ride until almost empty all the time and I have put 6.3 gallons in 10+ times. My fuel tank really does hold over 6 US gallons.

A Google search will show other forums that discuss this fact. Or maybe we're the only guys in the US who have that fuel capacity!

No one else with a 2009 R3T has a 6+ gallon fuel tank?

NOTE: Could the neck add .4 gallons to the equation? 5.9 in the tank itself plus another .4 gallons in the filler neck? Just a thought...

Come on, Rocket pros, solve this mystery.

My 2008 manual says 4.8 gallons. But given that it's a brit bike, it is in Royal Gallons or some such.

Anyway, Google the conversion and it comes out to 5.89 American Gallons. Some just say 5.8 gal, but it rounds to 5.9 gal.

What's the most fuel you've been able to get in your tank?

I put 6.2 (US) gallons in today after a ride to Big Bear and back. And I wasn't totally empty as I heard some gas still swishing in the bottom.

I cannot be the only Rocket Rider out there with a slightly bigger tank, can I? I really think it's the fuel neck above the tank that allows the extra half gallon...
