Looking for a rack to carry my R3

i gave up and bought a trailer... that particular rack has a couple issues: 1) ramp up on to it with 850lb bike; 2) hitch is usually 500lb rated; 3) only one side tie down...

i had one of those carriers for my gs500 on the back of the motorhome and it was ok. tried to upgrade it for r3r but gave up even after adding 2 extra supports off of frame rails for stability and making the whole carrier pivot down on the left side support (instead of having to use a ramp made the carrier the ramp) but it was still just too squirrely... running the bike up a ramp that you can't have both feet on the platform is just too iffy... i may revisit and build a ~3ft wide platform (use harbor freight folding ramp as base?), because it's definitely nicer to just have the bike on the back than to have to pull the trailer when it's just me (but the trailer comes in awful handy when the wife is along)...

Is the carrier wide enough for your rear tire? Is your hitch rated for 1000 pounds?

What are you mounting this on? If your putting it on the back of a motorhome look at the Mountain Master motorcycle loader. Costs more but quality built and 1 person can load any bike or trike. I have his pickup motorcycle loader and gave made 2 trips from Arizona to Michigan with no pronlems.

I think I'd find something in the 2000lb range if I went that route. And if they made it at that capacity.

Put a near 1000lb bike on there and hit some bumps and the weight increases exponentially. Possibly causing a failure with the rack and bike skidding down the road.

I've got a '11 Ram 2500 diesel, so it can carry it. I haul my 26' toyhauler loaded with no issues... I was more asking about that specific rack. It is a heavy bike, and it is hanging further out... I wanted to check anybody else's experience before I purchased it. I can always add extra tiedowns, or supports. But at least this would give me a base.

Sometimes it's good to drive and then go on the ride. I've got 1000 miles of I5 round trip (boring) to meet up with friends to do a 3 day trip. Looking for options.

If your truck bed is available I would put the bike in the bed rather than hang it off the back. Use something like the Mountain Master or Rampage bike lifts and you can easily load your bike.

At 67 years old I can no longer do a week of 10 hour days on bike so truck it where we're going than can enjoy the ride.

I can't do a full time system, so looking for the next best thing. Trust me, I'm skeptical about hanging my beloved off the back of my truck, that's why I'm throwing it out there... to see if it's been done, and any improvements.

What about loading it into the toy hauler for transport ? I purchased a nice 12 x 6 single axle trailer for my Rocket. The trailer is the perfect size to carry the Rocket with my Explorer. I use it for other things too. It is a nice thing to have.

Thanks, I've considered it, space in the garage is another issue.
I'm thinking even if it comes up a little bit short, to replace the motorcycle specific part of this, with a much beef your version ... that is, if I deem this too shaky or not trustworthy.
I'm really looking forward to seeing if this is possible, with this setup.
