Jacking up to lube the splines

I grease mine at every tyre change. Have my own bike lift, clamp the front wheel and have a flat jack with a sheet of ply under the rear of the sump. Not good policy to lift the bike without having the front clamped in the bike lift, lot of weight up there in the breeze. Have to go pretty high to get the wheel out.

Just knock up a simple jig to clip onto the two lugs on the bike and use a ATV lift much safer ,if I get a chance I will post a picture of the one I made up in about an hour using a bit of scrap steel that was laying around the shed

Just a quick shot of the jig on the ATV lift , I use a simple lynch pin to secure the jig onto the lugs but you can use a nut and bolt ,but the bike is secure on the jig ,using this jig and lift the bike is perfectly balanced and you can raise either wheel or both at the same time it just pivots on the locating pins

How do you know that?

Ran my bike over a raised driveway two-up in Darwin. Ripped one of the drain plug surround shear off. Didn't realise till I went round a corner .. rear wheel was covered in oil. Rear wheel slid sideways across two lanes .. mate on the back thought I was some sort of stunt rider .. sheer luck we stayed on.

Ozride, thank for the loan of your jack and that hi tech piece of wood, did the job perfectly.

I just did my Roadster for the first time at 16000kms very pleased I did, the splines were as dry as, no sign of grease or paste just red rusty dust. Gave both splines a very good clean and wash, lubed up with Motul 300 EP moly grease and reassembled.

I should be able to charge Triumph for doing a job the factory should have done right in assembly

Was very lucky lining up the splines, they just slipped together first go. Although mully95 idea is a smart one.

When undoing the axle nut it was tight all the way off, noticed the nut thread damaged which would been done by the tyre shop who replaced the rear tyre in April. I will get the thread in the nut cleaned up this week.
