Issues with filling 2.5 gas tank

Okay, so in fact we can all agree that it's a great bike with a slightly stupid tank design...

Besides, I'm surprised that the most annoying member of our forum hasn't yet commented on this post... 🤣

At first, I hesitated to take a hammer and redesign the tank inlet my way, then I calmed down... :eek:

If you want to fill up to the brim, it's true that you shouldn't be in a hurry and worse, what happened to me yesterday when I filled the tank to the top: the gasoline expanded with the heat of the sun and I got liquid on my face! Obviously the tank venting is capricious because, very often, when we open the plastic cap you can hear that it's under pressure... weird!

It's not as bad as the plastic tank on my KTM. In hot weather as the tank expands a lot of vapour builds up and you can smell it being vented.

The insert is a gusset that I believe also serves to prevent you filling with diesel by mistake. I haven't tried it but I suspect a diesel pump nozzle will not fit through the hole. Harleys have them too. I got used to it with the Harley I had before I came to the Rocket, though it took a bit of getting used to with a few splash-backs at first, and now I don't have any problems.

I fill up sat astride the bike. Put the pump nozzle just through the hole in the gusset (no jokes..) and fill with about half pressure.
Heh, yes lots of opportunities for crass innuendo, I am just glad there are no greased nipples on bikes, well none that I am aware of. I have thought about sitting on the bike and fueling, to keep it level and to guide the fuel into the tank but it seems precarious, I've always got off my bike to fill, it just seems safer.
 
I fill my 2025 R3 standing on the right hand side of the bike and have no issues with filler nozzles or auto shut off. Is it just me?
 
As I mentioned earlier, my main problem is that the key cap is poor quality and annoying to use. If anyone has changed it for a well-ventilated one (even without a key), I would like the reference, thank you.
 
To get maximum enjoyment from your ride, always ensure moving parts are well lubed and nipples greased, and remember to push the nozzle all the way through the gusset before you commence pumping. At full speed, hold on with both hands and grip firmly with the knees.
Then whisper your sister is a better ride than you & see how long you can hang on . . .
