Inexpensive Starter Replacement

I just ordered two of them from advance on line. Promo code P20, 20% discount. also has a 20 dollar core charge on each. Checked with the local Advance auto parts and even with it getting shipped to my door I can change the motors out and reassemble the starters, take them down to them and they will credit the 20 dollars each back to my PayPal account. If it weren't for the 14.50 sales tax I would have two beast starters for just under 200 bucks. Not bad if you ask me. I think some of the states don't get charged tax which will work great if you want tobeef yours up for just under 100 bucks each. Oh and thats shipped to my door free.

tried to order one but they don't ship to canada I will check the local shop if no joy I may ask one of you guys in the us to order it for me ...!!!

That can be arranged. I will be out of commission Tuesday as I am having surgery on my shoulder but I am hoping after a couple days to atleast not be bed ridden. They say it might be longer but they also say I usually do not listen to them so we shall see. As long as I can drive or have the ole lady do the running I am sur eit will be easy to make it happen. I have shipped them down under with no problem In fact I think I rememeber it was 50 bucks to ship to Perth. Lord knows I will be bored until I can turn wrenches on my bikes at least. I plan on taking full advantage of the paid time off might even go to Daytona Bike week even if I cannot take a bike. We shall see let me know.

[Edit: PLEASE look at the first post . . . updated the info there.]

I ordered one from this company with Wayne's PN but it did not fit. My Carpentered motor was not turning over. I went for an addittional battery setup and much larger cables to ground and between batteries and starting is great without the 1.4kw starter.
Will re-do if I have any future problems but the point of this post is just to say, you may not be getting all your stock starter motor can deliver if you don't give it enough juice.

How many hours or start ups would a OEM starter would resist? I have a 2007 with only 6800 miles on , would be nessesary? Just a question ... I always buy replacements because where I live it s always a problem but need to know if it common from s motors to fail, thanks

Get one and hold on to it. It would be better to have one than not and need it.

Does the cat box and exhaust have to come off to get to the bolts to get the starter off?
Thanks,
Bill Montgomery

Interesting stuff!

My project engine arrived without a starter, so I'm looking for one that doesn't cost as much as one from Hinckley! ;)

Are any of these higher-power starters a direct fit, or do they need some machining and parts robbed from the old starter?

:( unfortunitly you do need a original starter as you need the housing to attach to motor I think Wayne Tripp explained it there somwhere early in the thread
