Ignition relocation - alternate location?

Ignition relocation

Hi There
I have a 2008 rocket and changed the ignition location it is a time consuming job but well worth the effort.
To remove your existing ignition you need to remove your tripple tree
once you have removed it grind off any bulky parts off the houseing as neccassery to fit in your new location.
YOUR IGNITION HAS A STANDARD SIX PIN PLUG I used trialer light cable and simply made it long enough to reach the new location.
It took me approx six hours but again it was well worth it

Thats interesting Phil, I thought the 07's and 08's were the same. Like Rawlo said, it's a huge production to relocate the switch on these years because of the fork lock and stuff. Did you do it yourself or was it that way when you got it? What's in the factory location now?
The web does say that it does not fit 08 and later so it seems 07 was the last year for it. I could have sworn the 07 I rode had the same ignition fork lock as mine .... maybe not. Maybe there was a mid year thing too, who knows.

Rawlo, I was trying to find a exploded view of the lock mechanism in the book but it's not there .... I assume the pin drops down into the tree just like jap bikes do .... do you remember what the diameter of it was? My old Yamaha's pin was like a quarter inch steel piece. I couldn't see anyone breaking it by twisting the bars, was Triumph similar?

Got it that way, Kelly. She now sports a nice, shiny chrome plug where the hole would be behind the risers.

I have done the mod to the right side plastic cover . Cables dont need to be cut just re routed.Steering does not get in the way.I lined mine up with the round mark on the plastic.THe switch housinghas a hole ,line that hole up with screw that holds plastic piece.has to spaced out.

I'm seriously considering relocating my ignition. The default spot is horrific if you have a fly screen and other hardware in that area.
I would love to see a photo of your finished work.

Watching this thread as i have the exact same problem. Previous owner relocated the ignition as the original failed. Now i need 2 keys, one for the steering lock and the second for the ignition. I don't like where it is currently located so if anyone has any pictures of theirs it would be greatly appreciated
