How long.......do you keep your ride?

The longest I've ever kept a motorcycle was about 5 years. On average, every 2 years or so I'll get something new to try. This time round though I just got a second bike to go along with the Rocket as I feel I haven't had as much fun as I can have with it yet!

I think with the Rocket there's no 'trade up'...it's too unique (baring the potential for any overhaul of the model).

Instead it's just going to be 'add another'

Funny how we are all so quick to agree that added to the fleet is a good idea.....

True, one of the sentiments I see pop up on this forum quite often is along the lines of, "If the Rocket were the only bike I could own until the end of my days, I would be leaving this world with a $hit eating grin on my face."

But it's human nature to want more, and why not have your cake and eat it too.

How about 31 years? I bought a new Honda V-65 Sabre in 1984 and installed the Hondaline Sport fairing with lowers. I got involved with other bikes and it sat neglected in the back of the garage for more than 25 years. It is mint and only had 2400 miles on it so last summer I decided to put it back on the road. I changed the fuel over the years but it had still turned so I had all 4 carbs rebuilt and dropped in a new battery. I had forgotten just how fast that thing is and it will still hold its own with many of the new big bikes. The only weak part is the dated suspension...

I won't be able to keep my 2014 R3R that long since I'll be taking a dirt nap long before it is 30 years old...

My plan is to keep the Rocket forever. I'll let it be a burden to my heirs. As for other bikes, oh yes, we just add/subtract to the flock. 11 years is the longest I have kept a bike. Rocket has been with me for 7 years and I'm going for another 30 plus. In 20 years or so the guys who have sold their Rockets will be kicking themselves for it. But alas sometimes economic needs require selling something you don't want to. I hope I'm never in that situation. I hope you are not either.

I tend to keep my bikes a while. In fact they tend to stay with me longer than women. I have owned close to 20 bikes in 50 years of riding and the Rocket has been with me for 10 of them, being the first one in Canada. Before that was a '94 sprint that I kept for 13 years and was one of my favourites. The longest is my Commando which has been with me for 38 years though it is unlikely to take me on a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway again unless it gets there on the back of my truck :)
The Rocket will be with me for a while yet, probably until I can no longer ride the beast. There really is nothing else like it.

still have my 72 bonne my 01 legend and 07 rocket the bonne and r3 most favorite close tie anyways lots of chances to get rid of them but never will ill keep them all till I die then my kids can fight over who gets what
