How far do you take it?

I tried the "Kramer theory" running into Coober Peddy once .. ran out of fuel within sight of the joint .. was still a long way to push the f#ckin thing I can tell you.

Haha. It's hard enough doing a 6 point turn in the garage let alone a push to the servo. I'm waiting until the time that I park myself into a spot I cant get myself out of. Just a matter of time.
 
91ron and 240km on 18ltrs....regular as clockwork...mostly steady cruising @ 120-130kph and I consider every start from a standstill to be a drag race...

yep 7.5 L/100 just about the same here, but the speedo/odometer on the Tourings are close to 7% fast so the actual mileage travelled is 7% less than shown, this can run you into trouble/pushing time if you calculate close to maximum distance to travel between fuel stops, my fuel gauge is close enough to spot on accurate but I still use the odometer and calculate at 8L/100 to be on the safe side
I have checked my odometer using the RMS speedo/odometer checks on the M1 Motorway and with a GPS, both show a 7% optimistic reading by my speedo/odometer
 
Agree. I just need to find a common ground in regards to city v highway mileage and go with that on the trip meter. Annoying red light at half full/empty will be a PITA but not the end of the world.
 
BUT lower octane fuels actually have a higher calorific content. Octane burning slowly ONLY helps if the engine spins slowly. RELATIVELY.

High octane is primarily to slow down combustion in high compression engines that COULD produce detonation with higher calorific fuels.
But there are other ways to reduce combustion chamber temperatures that can even negate the use of High Octane.
Long hydrocarbon chains will eventually allow hot spots to build up too.

The R3 runs fairly slow and has LOW compression. It would probably run on weasel's piss at a scrape.

About 7.5l/100kms here too - Though I am currently playing with maps to see if I can improve this. As I can easily get it to 8.5l/100.

I'd check - as I checked GPS against speedo and odo. Speedo reads fast - odo is SPOT ON. The speedos read fast to avoid a massive legal hurdle for mfrs. A speedo CAN NEVER read less than true speed. So most are deliberately set to run fast to make sure a new tyre is not covering more distance that the gearbox output speedo reads off. As the tyre wears the distance per revolution reduces.

I've run mine at 6.4 or so while cruising longer distances, but obviously you have to "ride on eggshells". According to the Road Trip app I run, it has averaged out to 7.71 over the past 3000 km, though, and an average of about 289 km per tank.

Great app for keeping track of fuel and expenses, btw, if you have an iPhone.

I have checked my Touring's Odometer using the measured 5Klm section of the M1 motorway that is marked ever Klm at about 300 metres before the 5 klm mark my Odometer reads 5klm also checked against my riding buddies new Honda FB6 Goldwing and always read a slightly higher figure on the R3T

The Power-tripp map adjust this some, mine is pretty close to accurate now.
