Help Please..Check Engine Light/No Gear Indicator

By the way, notice the spot on the GPS for 6th gear? **** shame they didn't want to use it.

That would be a great question for Triumph....I swapped bikes on my last ride with a buddy. He wanted to try out the rocket, and I took his Harley FatBoy....with a 6 speed transmission. I figured if Harley could put it in a 96 cu in engine, why don't we have one in our 140 cu in? JMO

Gear popping question

After wasting 2 hours at a dealer and riding toward home (canceled Quebec City!!) I'm in Albany NY reading your detention spring solution. The dealer said 40 hours to open it all up! So is gear popping when it's the spring a random event? I've had it hit neutral when I shift to 2nd, hit neutral when I then shifted again, and hit neutral again (should be in 4th but still in neutral) and engaged only in 5th. Drove carefully 150 miles and last run off the highway it hit every gear! I'm on vacation and need to be back in 9 days (900) miles: should I limp back or order spring detention parts and fix it here? Thanks!! Bruce

Welcome Bruce. My advice is to fix it as soon as you can and ride it as little as possible. Each time it jumps out you run the risk of damaging the gears.
Maybe when you get time you might like to introduce yourself.........

I have an issues with the gear position sensor too at 100 miles. Check engine light came on. Took it to the dealer, they said it threw a code for the gear position sensor. Mine is a 2013 Roadster. The guy that changed my oil after break in said that it popped out of gear for him once, and there was trouble finding neutral. I have no problem finding neutral, though sometimes you have to roll it back or forward a bit to go in. Had the same on the M109r and C109r. The tech said he thought the gear shift felt sloppy. I don't really think it's any worse than the other big cruisers I've had. It's never come out of gear for me. Anyway seems this is an issue with these bikes. I'm glad the computer is catching stuff this small. Gives me some confidence that future problems will be easy to sort out. I thought I was just going to have to live the it not indicating N sometimes. No big deal. But I would rather have it work, of course.

i have a '10 roadster too and am on my 3rd GPS.

my problem was it became harder & harder to get the N light on so i couldnt put it on the side stand while running to open the gate or it would cut out. tried all the cleaning etc but no joy so i replaced the factory one at 6k miles

then at 10k it indicated wrong gear number while riding (plus engine light), and when i shifted down to 1st then it stuck on either 1 or N.
but that corrected once i switched it off and on again, but the engine check light remained so i connected up and found the P0705 Gear position sensor circuit malfunction, cleared that and alls good again.

same thing happened again at 14k.

then at 16k the old N became hard to get up, very quickly became impossible so once again i replaced the sensor.
looks like im doomed to buy a new sensor every year /-: and im at 20k now

Well this happened to me - it was the roll pin on the end of the indicator link shaft - the inside end. The roll pin snapped off inside the actuator. Quote to fix - 40hrs labour, $4860. Being as stuborn as I am I figured there has to be an alternative. Took me 8 hours of toiling - unshackled the frame from the engine and lifted the rear 2 inches so I could get the shaft in (The Triumph Tech removed it with a hammer, scratching the frame and bending the shaft, it won't come out past the frame). Using a 315mm long 3mm drill bit, a very strong magnet attached I drilled out the old pin very slowly - magnet caught all of the debris. Re-inserted a new one and put it all back together. Orthodox? No, did it work? Absolutely. A good endoscope helps as well.
