Road tested today (on the Guzzi). Blimey! - What you start to realize is not only how much noise they kill but also how much sound you hear via bone conduction. Hit a rough patch of road and it felt like my head was being hit with a hammer. Plugs really comfy. Only really noticed them when I thought about them.

But when I stopped - removed lid and plugs - could hear my missus boxing up at the other end of the garden. No way I could have done that after a ride even with the NoNoise plugs in. Will they solve the resonating Arai issue? - Dunno, but for the price of some Aluminium ones - worth a punt.

I am debating Titanium - or maybe make some copies of the metal bits in an even denser metal - Stainless or even Tungsten for example. I am a convert.

From how much of the metal part protrudes from the 'tester's' ears I would not think that metal density would be relevant, rather low weight and the extra 'sparkle' factor of titanium.
But as you want to experiment, lead ones should be even easier to form, may protect you from X-rays but I doubt they work any better and may fall out easier. Kanye WEST style gold ones would be even more bling but would also possibly fall out easier than a Kardashian body part.;):D

Hmmm - lead. I do have a press for swaging bullet heads. A tadge toxic. And with a lathe - Stainless is easy.

Guess I would rather have lead in my pencil than ears ;)

Part of the problem with foam earplugs is that some folks don't insert them properly so that they can do the job they were designed for. Kinda' like lovemaking in a way, though in one's ears as opposed to one or another's nether regions.;)

They are just Gold Plated for $326.32 AUD, an extra $286 from base aluminum Mini at $40.78 AUD:eek::confused::whitstling::rolleyes:

And for the truly stupid an extra $449 for Rhodium Plated at a gobsmacking $489.49 AUD.:confused::whitstling::rolleyes:

As they state "ISOLATE® MiNi is 33% smaller and 100% as efficient as the standard ISOLATE® model." I would imagine there is no difference in the various models sound absorption via 'density'.

To me, the marketing and pricing screams Run Away, Run Away, Run Away NOW! :(:rolleyes::whitstling:

Fred - heres an article - Photo of them fitted -

Biker review Flare Audio Isolate Earplugs - Gear Review | RideApart

The minis fold in even better in my ear. I'd have to rip my ears of before the helmet lining even touched them.

I read the test Flare Audio Isolate Earplugs - Gear Review | RideApart and noted the maker's statement about how they work:
"When you isolate a dense material in soft foam inside your ear, sound waves can't penetrate from the flexible medium of air and it becomes the perfect isolator.”

A cheap alternative I shall try is to glue some short blunt ended 20mm x 5mm cup head screws into some disposable foam ear plugs. Plenty of cheap different screw/bolt and foam plug combinations to try.
I may also try some 17mm x 5mm stainless cylindrical shelf supports plugs used in shelving with adjustable heights and drilled holes in the end boards. Total cost 20c a pair. I may even paint them gold! Or go the whole hog and get 24K gold plated audio jacks for under $5 a pair, could even melt some solder into the female ends to increase the density. Still under $5 a pair instead of their 24K gold plated ones for $326.32 AUD - WTF! ;):D:whitstling::rolleyes:

Even better, 20 pairs for $2.11 (US$1.69). Could just use the 10 x banana sprung ends which would hold in the foam plug and fill the centre with solder. Just 0.21c (US$0.17) a pair plus foam plugs.
