I'm smarter than the average 5th grader, i ride the Harley like a Harley, the Rocket like a Rocket, the Blackbird like a blackbird and when i feel girly i ride the Spyder like a Spyder, i don't try to make a crusier out of the Bird or a Rocket out of the Harley, thats why i have one of each

My Son's SE V-Rod would out run a stock Rocket III. The 2 bikes were that close, top end the V-Rod was a lot faster than the Rocket
Ask me how I know.............I was riding the V-Rod.

157 mph on the V-Rod and it had not stopped pulling as per my GPS. That is 10 mph faster than I ever got out of my Rocket.

Also That was before I did all the mods to my rocket.

2 questions for everyone here including Art and Scott ....what is the fastest speed any one ever got from a stock Rocket and the fastest speed out of a Modified Rocket.

True speed indicated and the real speed GPS or timed .

PS........Most Real Harley Guys say a V-Rod is NOT a real Harley

I have a friend with a screaming eagle V rod he made 114 HP on the Dyno I drag raced him several times with my stock 09 classic he very light 120 lbs I weighed 210 at the time I beat him by 5 bikes every time but I never raced him top speed and the stock Rockets are restricted BUT racing him with my Carpenter bike its no contest I just walk away from him and Ive raced the fastest sport bikes BMW 1000RR and modded ZX14 R KAW top speed and passed them at 190 MPH and just kept on leaving them behind but not having a GPS i dont know how fast I was traveling but with the 9000 rev limit the modified Rockets in theory are going to go over 200 + MPH So if the the stock bikes go 75 t0 80 mph depending on trire size at 3000 rpm then X 3 = 225 to 240 MPH we did run one at Bonneville but the track condition was poor with no traction spinning the rear tire and kicking up a Roostertale of salt and running on only 2 CYCLS afer sucking a load of salt into the ram air Scoop and clogging the front throttle body it still went 183 mph we do want to get to an an air strip and see what it will do on a good surface with traction and then it should fly

I am finding this very hard to believe. A good friend of mine rides a standard v rod. Of course when I bought the Rocket we had a few friendly challenges. We both weigh in about the same and are both experience riders. The Rocket out performed the V-Rod. He went with a aftermarket exhaust and re-tuned the bike. I just went with a Re-tune and A stock K%N air filter. I still very easily pull away from him every time. With a Carpenter bike it would be no contest at all. My friend has let me ride his V-rod a few times and personal I think the riding position sucks. Handling performance is not very impressive either. I do like the engine design but that was not designed by Harley Davidson. Just my 5 cents worth. Stock Rocket X after re-tune top end at 134 mph. This was done on a closed course and under very good conditions.

This was done on a closed course and under very good conditions.[/QUOTE Ive raced my friend I would say 5 times from 1st to 5th gear and it was a good race and I beat him everytime but we didnt run top speed and I could easily retune with a Carpenter pipe and raise the rev limit and gain 50 HP and loose 50 lbs and it would devastate the V rod everywhere including top speed The V ROD is the best engine Harley makes because it wasnt designed by them YOU retuned your X but you didnt raise the rev limit or speed limiter ?

My nephew has '12 VRod Muscle, with Intake, exhaust, and PCIII. When my R3 was bone stock I could take him light to light with me 2up and him solo. Now top speed was limited to 125 by the ECU. Once I put the Carpenter pipe, and had them flash my ECU, I could really leave him off the line, and walk away at topend too.

Since I have the Carpenter 265 kit I have had it to 176 in 4th gear and still pulling hard, but I was running out of road fast.

Real life top end on V-rod is only 135 mph and it takes a long time to get there. The tricky words of Harley is "around 140 mph" Yes we did raise the rev limit and tuned the bike so that it would run smoother was not looking at performance. Figured out real quick that the stock tune was a bit on the lean side. Remember I ride lot, Top end On the Rocket before the tune was at 127mph. I get good gas mileage and the bike is running a bit cooler since the tune.

I rode a V-Rod a couple of summers back...wasn't impressed at all...it would get up and go fairly well, but no way it would touch an R3, and it had to be revved up to go...it had no bottom end torque...and the riding position was absolutely horrible, like a ******rocket...
