There was a noticeable difference. It doesn't actually give you more power but rather unlocks the available power in the first three gears by eliminating the timing restriction. In other words, it tells the ECU that the bike's in 4th gear all the time. That's why if you put one on a Roadster (and have it on the '3' setting presumably) the stock gear indicator will always show 4th. The bike will be more responsive off the mark and certainly easier to ride at slow speeds, plus you have all the power on tap all the time. Big grin factor and best bang for your buck and the gear indicator is a nice little bonus.
I know some people ridicule the gear indicator, saying they can count or use the tacho to tell. I can do all that too, but I just like being able to see the number at a glance. No more trying to change up from 5th or needing to check I'm there and no more dropping down a cog too low in the wet round a corner. I'd say it's as necessary as a tacho is (unless you're into flogging the sh#t out of your bike) ie. nice to have and why not.
I should add that you can also achieve the same results with TuneECU or TuneBoy. Just depends on which way you want to go. Personally I don't want to start messing with the ECU, but that's me.
Got to agree with Canberra,
the gear indicator is nice to have,
no more tyring to find a 6th that just ain't there.
and it helps unlock the beasts stored up energy.
Just hooked up my new GIPro and it was way easier than I expected. Had to do the gear learn thing and good to go now. I LOVE driving in town now. I'm gonna get a ticket for sure. Is it just me, or are all the traffic lights closer together now? What a Rocket! Why didn't I do this before???

The way I read this is if I'm adding Jardines, the trip K&Ns, removing the secondaries, and a new Map from TuneEcu, then the GIPro essentially has no performance effect. Though the indicator is a benefit, I'm not sure it's worth yet another $150+? Or at least not right now...give the wallet a little time to recover?
Am I missing something?

Coupled with a dark side, the GIPro facilitates upward motion of the front wheel for sure. Without DS, the rear wheel breaks loose too easily when the GIPro is set on 3.
