Gauge Problem.

Your not dumb as you just made me catch on that the harnesses modifications are on two different harnesses which I over looked. The ignition harness and the gauge harness.
Thanks now to go look at one of my bikes that is apart in dry dock now

I was plagued for month with the gauge issue. Mugzy my guru said there is a sub processor common to both gauges. He said it looked like it lived inside one of them. I replaced the gauges and all is well now.

That will be my last option,(new gauge) Rather than keep on going crazy i will book an appointment at the dealer and let them sort it out.

Any insight into which gauge is the bad one? They certainly aren't cheap and I would hate to unnecessarily replace one that is working fine.
If I had to pick one, I would say it's the Speedo.

Lenny, I have an appointment with my dealer on Thursday morning (provided I make it back in town by then from work). I will keep you posted. Please do the same.

I took the bike to the dealer(Gold Coast) 2 weeks ago, i called them Today and they havent even looked at the bike Yet.

So short answer dunno what its wrong with the bike yet.

I had the same exact symptoms described here EXCEPT for the ‘occasional not starting’ issue and is unrelated to the other symptoms described here.
After lots of troubleshooting, the root cause was/is a bad speedometer.
I was able to confirm this by swapping my working speedometer from my other Rocket classic.
Wanted to share this info for the next person that hits this issue.

Will undoubtedly be helpful to people with failed speedos out there.
Also worth mentioning, when I brought the bike to the dealer to diagnose, they said I needed both a tach and a speedo. They were each about 500-600 bucks. I told them to only order the speedo. As it turned out the replaced speedo fixed the problem. This was about 7 years ago.
Also, if you replace the speedo on a R3 (don't know about the new models), the new unit cannot be programmed with the existing mileage, so for registration purposes keep a record of your mileage at the time of the swap.
