I've been watching your discussions regarding rusty chrome and thought I would wait until I had a proper response.

My dealer took one look at the front wheel which was showing signs of oxidization under the clear coat, so you couldn't clean it off and rusty spots on the chrome fork guards and sent a photo to Hinckley.

In less than three weeks the dealer has called me to say the new wheel and fork guards are in stock for me.

I think thats good service. Just have to hope they have cured the wheel problem and I dont have to do it again.

I agree it is good service but should the parts have coroded in the 1st place?

You are right, it shouldn't have happened, but it did!

So as long as they continue to replace any parts that corrode, I'm happy, lifes to short to worry about what I can't change.

Bike is out of warrantee this summer
then we pay for rust replacement ourselves
Triumph have the 2 year cop out even
though they know there is a quality issue

Maybe I'm wrong about this but I don't feel like being so hard on Triumph about issues of finish. Overall its pretty good, not perfect, but good. Triumph is a small company and issues of finish flaws opens a can of worms that could bankrupt a company in one season. I am glad they recalled the driveshaft, (but that was not thier nickle was it!) and I am anxious about the bikes that had a transmission failure. I hope they issue a bulletin or tell the truth about what is going on with that. Corroded wheels, .... I guess I am just more worried on the tranny. I will paint the wheels black if I have to. (As often as I clean them, nobody could tell if I did paint them black)
Now lets get after them to make an "SS" model (super sport). Cams, high compression pistons, porting, factory header, adjustable gearing at the final drive and maybe a cassette tranny, smaller bars, rearset pegs and a 1/2 fairing.

Now think back. The Bonneville only happened because the U.S. made it and then Turner had to meet the demand. As production goes up they will reach a point of saturation where they will be willing to do something as irresponsible as an 'SS' model to keep the sales going. Why are they even making the RIII in the first place. To negotiate the roundabouts in Merry Olde? I don't think so. (OK maybe I am hallucinating) (perhaps a flashback?)

SS will never hapen IMHO. I am really personally shocked that Triumph even made the Rocket.... :?

Ohhh, I bet it will happen and we will buy. I think Triumph knows that the Rocket community is pretty passionate about having power. There's going to be more capable competition from other makes soon so they'd be crazy to just sit on their laurels.

I heard the '06 wheels were no longer clear coated. Checked at the dealer and sure enough. They said they have to be polished every so often. So be careful what you wish for. Maybe in '07 all the chrome will be plastic or powder coated.
It is pretty apparent that the Rocket is aimed at the US cruiser market. Fortunately the demand for Triumphs is larger than production capability. I think they are pretty reactive to what the dealers report as quality issues. They have to be to survive in the scooter business.
