There seem to be more choices in the front tire size, 150/80R17 available. I'm not going with the Cruisetecs since Metzler apparently still has not remedied the cupping problem that's been an issue going back decades. Dunlop makes the Elite-4 in that size and there may be others. What Avon alternatives are people here using and how do you like them?

I would not touch any other tyre than avon for front because of safety, I have pushed my front avon cobra is meant for tight corner on this bike and bike was still balanced, i wont try with other brands unless the material is same as avon i.e. performance grade/sticky once hot etc .
Well that tells me it's a big no for the rocket. I looked into it some more and that tire is more more for straight long distance as opposed to twisties.

Just sayin':
I have run the Avon and it is OK, but tis no comparison to the front wheel grip of a Michelin Road 5 or 6 rear run backwards in the twisties!
IMHO

The Michelin Road 5 is excellent in the rain, and the Road 6 is supposedly even improved for the rain. I have been through many Road 5 on the front of both my Rockets, but the Road 6s are only a season old and so far I've not been caught in much rain. Best grip tires I've ever had on a cruiser motor!
