Just a heads-up for those who might have the Key-Less kit on Santa's list (you have been 'good', right? ), that I have TWO kits that can be shipped in time for Christmas.
Anything after those will most likely be in the New Year.
*Hands-Free Key-Less Kits can be Relay or PDM60 configured specifically for User
I also have PDM60 on hand - PM me for R3Owners.net pricing for stand-alone PDM60 (i.e. no Keyless, just PDM60 Retail Pack)
Now down to just one available Key-less kit that can be shipped in time for Christmas.
Needs to be ordered by Sunday 20th to ensure delivery by Christmas Eve*.
*(US only of course - overseas shipping takes about 10-14 days typically)
Winter is waiting here in the east, so yesterday, a friend tagged me on Facebook as it was a beautiful day and he wanted to take a ride with his daughter (high school senior paid for the bike and protective gear with her own money!), so the three of us and three bikes made our way to Springfield Mall and parked in the garage.
When I returned, I saw the acknowledgement flash, and got on the bike and -- nothing. Dead. I messed around trying the lock button several times, and finally, something happened, and the bike came to life.
Approach 'armed' bike - remote can remain in pocket.
Turns will give a double flash (indicating that the controller has detected the remote)
The Instrument Indicator LED should be ON if system is disarmed
(also the remote will be flashing green when in range of the controller)
- if the dash panel LED is NOT on, then system is not disarmed (or it may have been initially but has lost communication* of the remote if signal is being blocked and re-armed itself)
- press remote manually if required, or adjust position to ensure the controller is detecting the remote
A 'quick' press of remote arms the system, a longer (2-3s) press will disarm.
It is also possible the battery in the remote may require to be replaced (although the life on these is quite good, typically >1 year)
Set Kill Switch to Run
Pull clutch, Ignition will come on and remain on even when you release clutch
(on later model KeyLess kit the Status LED will go out when the ignition is on)
To shut down, set Kill/Run to Kill - bike will shut down, status LED will come back on.
Remote will again be flashing green;
Walk away, turns will flash (single flash);
The Bike status LED will go OFF and the Remote will momentarily transition from flashing green to single red flash, then be 'off'.
System is armed.
After discussing with Joesmoe on phone, in this particular instance, the status LED was not on, indicating that bike was still armed and appears it was subsequently manually disarmed by the remote button.
This could have been environmental - signal not being adequately received by the controller - due to location of remote on person, or something blocking or reflecting the signal to the antenna of the receiver.
It is also conceivable that the battery may require replacement. I would recommend to replace the battery (or use the other remote for a bit) to eliminate that contention
Fortunately there was no 'hard failure' - after the bike was successfully disarmed, it controlled correctly and armed/disarmed 'hands-free' in subsequent tests.
* A quick post-script on the remote-to-receiver communication - this system does NOT rely on continuous communication to maintain the ignition, once it has been turned on - only to initially 'set' it on.
Indeed once the ignition is on, the controller actually turns OFF the remote to preserve its battery power
This was an important safety design consideration to ensure that power to the bike would not be lost in event of a remote communication failure.
Yes, I LOVE the keyless ignition. It's the icing on the cake for what we all know as diamond in the rough with a heart of gold, and to have that, and be just as smug as a Lexus owners . . .
I had a little fun with the mechanic who worked on the bike -- "We can't get it started." We walked out to the bike, and he kept turning the key back and forth, as I kept saying, "It's keyless ignition, the key doesn't do anything except lock the steering" and to see the cognitive dissonance working in his head (we've all been there -- looking at something that shouldn't be). I had to grab the key out of his hand and say, "Watch."

Hi have you got any ignition kits available, my stock one just fried itself. If I turn the bars to the right kills the motor and shuts down the electrics.
Are they just a simple plug in system, not very electrical minded.
Would I need a headlight relay kit?
Tried to figure out how to pm you couldn't sorry
Oh yeah it's a 06 classic and I am in Australia
