I have had the car tire on my bike for a little while now. Like mentioned previously here is my OWN opinion. I installed the car tire because I picked up a nail in my MC tire. I saw that the car tire was an option I could take so I wanted to try it. Here is the things I don't like about the car tire:

a) I feel in more control, better ride, etc.... with the air pressure set at 28 psi. Anymore than that the counter steer is a pain in the ass. With the air pressure this low the tire leaks air out apparently from around the bead. I have to add air to the tire if it sits for longer than three or so days. I have checked the air pressure before and it had dropped to 15 psi. Who wants to keep adding air in that short period of time?

b) The counter steer sucks! After about 200 miles or so I was so fed up with the car tire I ordered a new Metz. However I haven't been able to get it mounted ... you know the time thing?

c) The side wall is scuffed where I have been riding on it at times....that's not good. Not really like or dislike but it's there.

d) The transition from leaning to one side of the other in the corners is "bulky" feeling.

e) Stopped on a slopped incline road the car tire wants follow the incline ... not good. Roads are slopped so water runs off to the shoulder. I have noticed my bike leans towards the shoulder of the road while riding.

Things I like:

a) Rides smoother
b) I can burn the tire off and not feel guilty about it since the price is cheaper.

I'm going back to MC tire when I get the time.

I am getting ready to go darkside and I have been following this ongoing arguement. Here is a good article I found written by a motorcycle safety instructor who believes it the force is strong in the darkside :D:

All Things (Safety Oriented) Motorcycle - Car tire on a motorcycle - some facts and observations.

In my opinion, the first article shows bias and does not fairly evaluate the difference.
Brently's link does. I agree with all the pros and cons as presented above.

I read the article. It seems quite balanced and objective. I guess that's because I'm not a zealot when it comes to tyres, but someone looking for information on the subject. I can understand why darksiders don't like it - for the reasons stated in the article - but I wonder what the reaction would be if the same article included comments from the same people but instead of concluding dark siding is flawed, said it was a great option. 10c says these so called self serving "experts" would suddenly be seen as experts..........
Richard you have made it quite clear that you are not willing to try and there fore can not consider yourself open minded!! ...... when you can stay with me up the mt tell me again.
you were there and you know he misquote me and it was not till R##### sent him proof that he was wrong that he opened the other eye but fail to admit it in his article (I am referring the the farce that was supposed to be a review on darkside tyres here) and he did not mention that a RTA registered engineer inspector had already told me there was no problem with darkside tyres.
By the way, the article mentioned that some people are even putting car tyres on the front of their bikes. Anyone heard or, know of or tried this? I'm not talking about the old style bike tyres like these:
I think you will find they are referring to bikes with sidecars

Also I would like to mention that the last time I was coming back from Canberra after the funeral I attended there I happen to get it to conversation with a couple of Highway Patrol Officers that were taking a pitstop at the servo where it was stopped having a drink and pitstop my self, we got into an in-depth conversation about the Darkside tyre when one of them happen to mention it looked like a car tyre they were quite intrigued when I told them that we ran them at lower than car pressure to allow the tyre to deform, The interesting thing is they are taught about tyre dynamics when they are taught to drive in a pursuit situation and they agreed that it made sense that we only use these High Performance tyre which are designed to carry large forces in their sidewalls

Hans, Hans, Hans. I can't recall saying I'm not prepared to try a car tyre on my bike. It's just that I haven't and can't foresee the need to as I'm satisfied with what I'm using at the moment. If having decided to use a bike tyre excludes me from commenting on car tyres then everyone who's using a car tyre should also refrain from commenting on bike tyres. Would make for much more harmonious discussion. Boring and ill-informed but at least everyone would agree with each other.

You know me - mostly conservative but a bit brash at times. You'd be disappointed if I didn't express the odd opinion, even about things I haven't tried, yet strangely have an open mind about - such as owning a Harley, jumping out of a plane or putting a car tyre on my bike. ;)

You're right about one thing; I'm definitely closed minded about not trying to stay with you on the mountain. :D What do you think I am? Crazy?? :p

Try the Bridgestone exedra max mate it has a wider crown than a Metz and feels nice and smooth and u don't have to ride around with it half flat to get around corners lol

I'll keep that tire in mind next time Mitch. I already have a Metz sitting right here.

I'm going back to mc tire probably for good. Time will tell I guess. I'm not to keen on riding around on a half flat car tire. With my weight on the bike 28 psi is my serious sweet spot. If I go 30 or 32 it kills the steering capabilities. I mean I can hang in there with it I guess but why should I have to fight the bike all of time. I'm a wussy! lol

That's what I don't understand. Why put up with it? If I test rode a bike and had to fight it to stay in a straight line I'd think it was rubbish. Exedra Max is my pic and what I'll be using until something better comes along.
