Clutch drag/clunking into gear

Thank you very much for your kind offer, if only there wasn't the small matter of the Atlantic Ocean……!
I think I'm tempted to take off the front cover again (for the cost of a gasket) and dismantle the clutch, I realise now I should have spent more time in there rather than rushing to close the old girl up. At least if I check the clutch and find nothing wrong I can be certain it's something deeper.
How much deformation should I be looking for in the clutch steels? is it thousandths on an inch? do I check the fibre parts too? I've never done this before so any/all advice appreciated.
How would one go about overheating the clutch to cause damage there? if it just lots of high power starts or would it be sustained heat, maybe if the clutch was badly adjusted (i.e. no play????)
Thanks again

Simon

just seen this bike on ebay uk.no mention of clutch problem.has the issue been resolved and what was the problem

If any of you are in the process of clutch repairs and your replacing the thrust bearing, you can get the bearing and washer from Mcmaster Carr faster and less $$$

What year? anything pre 2010 I'd check if it has had the repair already done.. if not.. yeah it could go.....They don't all break down, just a %

OK, further to my clutch issues…
I have bought a Barnett clutch and am in the middle of installing it. The steel plates coming out do seem to be slightly coloured so will post some pics later for opinions. Before I put the bike back together, does this look right?
There's a bearing in the middle (of the basket cover thingy) which is in good condition, but the piece the pulls the clutch just has one wavy washer and a thickish (about 2mm) washer….no needle bearing….is this right?

And this is EXACTLY what I have in my clutch, the smaller "button headed" lifter instead of the larger piece. The question is, what parts go where with the new (larger) lifter I will need to order?

Simon

Ok Simon I do not want to steer youwrong so first I will say you have them in the right order.
On a side note I bet you did not have the 2mm spacer in yours when you took it apart did you?

yes, it was just as in the picture

Well,
it's all back together and the difference is amazing! doesn't creep, doesn't slip, can actually change into neutral from 1st or 2nd gear without turning engine off and I have a couple off mm free play as I'm supposed to.
Thanks for all your help chaps
