I had a clunky gear box when going slow with the clutch pulled, turned out to be the clutch not opening up enough and dragging a bit. You have maximize the clutch pull without having the lift shaft contacting the lift piece. I would think thick oil would cause more drag as well so you maybe could switch to a thinner oil. Another thing is if the lever is adjusted for short pull you probably are not getting the full amount of clutch travel.
Several years ago, one of the bike mags had an article explaining why transmissions clunk. I cannot remember exactly what their definition was but it had to do with the size of the clutch and clutch plate separation. I know this is not much to go on but is all my old feeble mind can remember.![]()
