Carpenter 210+ VS 240+ on the street

I completely agree with Art here. I consistently get a tad over 40 mpg. at speeds over 80-85 mph. ( with occasional runs into triple digits ) on the interstates with my Carpentered 240 bike. I am using a gallon less than my riding bud who has a stock R3 at each gas stop on long trips. He gets in the low 30s as I used to when my bike was stock ( other than a PC III and Jardines )
I couldn't believe it myself. the engine is a marvel...smooth or smoother than stock, tremendous torque and the increased gas mileage is just a plus I did not expect.
I have not had the balls to use anything but high octane fuel because I did have a problem with pinging under load until I got the timing fully sorted out. I will try it now.

I stopped posting to the forums a long time ago because it got so hostile, but after 2.5 years or so the 210 kit is still going strong if anyone is interested. I am still happy with it, and pleased I picked the 210 kit over the 240. Figured at the time I could use the lower compression for some NOS if I really felt I needed it, but have not felt the need to. I do miss some of the low end, but it's a nice compromise. Figure if I wanted something that fast I would have kept my modded zx-14.

No magic involved at all, Tripps! Just calculated under idealized conditions, downhill with a tailwind and with superhuman throttle control.

Mine was 200 ftlb @ 2k & 300 ftlb @ 6k TOO MUCH

Have moved on since then

Power needs to be at higher rpms for racing, easier on drivetrain too.

Well, I just read every post in this thread and I'm even more excited to get my bike. I've purchased a 2007 R3 with the 210+ package from Bob Carpenter. It dyno'd at 224 HP and 176 lb.ft. of twist. I had him send the pipe to be polished and it should be ready to ship later this week (fingers crossed.) The bike had 26 miles on the odo prior to the dyno session, so this is pretty much a brand new bike. Bob gave me a killer deal and I'm totally stoked. Now I can turn it into the bike I want. Probably bags, windshield or fairing, floor boards, remove the back seat....

He has 2012 for-sale too if any of you are looking and it has less than 100 miles on the ticker...

I cannot speak to the 210 kit but my Carpenter Kit came in at 243.19 at 8000 rpms and 183.91 ftlbs of torque.

Here's the dyno sheet Bob Carpenter sent me on my 210+ (mine has his header/pipe and this sheet was done with no air cleaner or plenum). FYI, I've run mine with the tach needle near the bottom of the tach and it just keeps pulling (I have no idea what that RPM would be.)
