Butt Killer To Haceta Head Lighthouse

Ok, we finally got a dry, sunny day with a high temperature of 71. It sure wasn't 71 when I left my apartment this morning for a 375 mile round trip to Florence, OR. That's the home of the Haceta Head Lighthouse, the most photographed lighthouse in the United States. I'd been there twice before so I knew to pack my camera.

The R3T performed flawlessly even though it tortured my back, butt & biceps. My right wrist was so sore I kept trying to invent different ways to apply my "palm" to that Throttlemiester I use for a "cruise control". I have a replacement screen on order from Cascade Moto Classics where I bought my 2008 R3T. It's 7" taller than the standard screen. In the mean time I ate a lot of bugs, including one honey bee that managed to get inside my full face helmet. It was touch & go there for a minute until I finally just lifted the split-shell open completely to blow him away. I've got to order that custom seat too. My butt hurt so bad I looked forward to stop lights so I could get off for a few seconds. Torture I tell you, torture!

Anyway, hope you enjoy the pics. Oh, did I mention I'm doing it all again tomorrow on a ride through the Cascades known as The Auferheide Scenic Byway. Estacada, OR to Westfir, OR the hard way. I'll pack my camera on that one too!

I have a "ButtPad" sheepskin from Alaska Leathers and an Airhawk that I paid $200 for and hate.

Can't help with the seat; I have the Triumph solo with rider backrest and it's quite comfy for me. But, I thought I'd pass along (in case you're not aware) that you can get just the "Roadster Blade" now from Triumph for $210.00 as opposed to buying the entire Roadster windshield for $499.00. It's compatible with the stock hardware (bolts right on). I did that recently and love it. It's 7" taller and I can sit back and read the newspaper if I want to. Some guys like having both windshields, but I can tell you *I* would never put the stock shield back on.

Just thought I'd pass that along.

p.s. I got the Rivco risers put on Friday and they make a HUGE difference for me. I've never had to stretch with the OEMs, but they just were just a hair more forward than I would like. The Rivcos advertise that they bring the bars back 2 inches. I'm not convinced they come back that far, but it's definitely over an inch and, while it may not seem like much, it was perfect for me.

There are a tons of towns in Oregon with unusual names: Bland, Zigzag, Estacada, Winfir and a hundred with indian names. The American Indian nations played a huge part in Oregon history with the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Therefore there are many rivers, lakes, mountain passes and towns using indian names.

You gotta love the fact that we at least name stuff after the people that wer slaughtered and had there land stolen from, It somehow makes it all better does'nt it

Awesome pictures Bob, as usual Check out the CrampBuster throttle control. I too have the Throttlemeister but rarely use it. The $10 CrampBuster is the most bang for the buck, if you can get past the high cost of plastic

As for seat comfort, I'm right there with you as for how terribly uncomfortable the stock seat is! I've tried a 1/2" gel pad and it's OK for a butt warmer on a chilly day but come summer, it soaks up the heat and lights my arse on fire.

Wooden beads or the alternative ceramic bead pad will be my next attempt. Heat is the #1 issue and along with heat comes increasing moisture. The roller bead seat covers I've had over the years in my cagers did provide a great deal of added comfort...so why not on a motorcycle.
