Best way to power up external GPS unit

I would like to mount my Garmin Zumo XT2 on my R3R Storm and would like to connect it to the bike's switched (ACC, to be powered off when the engine is off) power source and in the same time do not damage the wires. Where do you guys connect your navigation unit? Is there some T-cable to get the power over some existing socket? Is DIN socket on the dash switched? Thank you in advance.

Is it difficult to access the plug from inside and connect there? I mean how to disassemble the dashboard and connect the wires directly to the socket pins? I would like to have waterproof connection.

The front plate comes off easily and reveals all the wiring. If you are nervous there is a full service manual on the R3 FB group: Triumph Rocket 3

Yes, the front plate has the wiring for the DIN plug and can be tapped into. I run Denali lights and Carplay unit from the connection.

I connected my TomTom cradle charger to that DIN socket, pull the connector off and there are small holes in the spade connectors. Expose 10mm or so of the wires, push the half-way in the holes, and push the connector back on. Voila ! - Job done (and very easy to remove, with nothing having been cut or modified)

You've been given good advice here. There are some power points to tap into that make running wires from the front head unit area simple and clean. It's what I have done to power my GPS unit, then a Lamonster cradle, and a Ram mount for the GPS base. All set. No fuss, no muss!

But that means that the wire is visible, right?

You can run the wire though bottom drain holes in dash box to your gps unit and it will be very discreet.

I know but the way @Ward did it, I guess cable is visible. I don't want that.

By the way, I disassembled the front panel and got to the socket. Now I am looking to buy connectors to make it nice and tidy.
