So what is the general consensus on the proper battery for the R3T. When I had my Classic I remember that sometimes the stock or "recommended" battery wasn't up to the task of turning that big engine over.

I see where Wayne had mentioned a more powerful starter set up but it is still that battery that has me concerned.

So let 'er rip...Touring owners...which battery is the most recommended battery to put in the beast even if it means modifying the battery compartment?

The stock battery in my Touring lasted 3 yrs before I changed it, I had to put it on the tender every now and then if it had been awhile since I rode it.

I never saw any reason to put in a larger or more powerful battery, it worked just fine.

I just replaced my stock battery with a YUASA YTX20HL-BS. Bikemaster makes the same one, but I felt better with the YUASA.

More cranking power. This is the battery my Triumph dealer recommends as the replacement for the factory YUASA.

I believe the stock battery in the touring has a 270 cranking amp capacity while the YUSASA YTX20HL-BS has a 310 cranking amp capacity...This is what I replaced mine with also...It works fine....You should get a couple years out of your stock one before it needs replacement.

I still have my stock one in, never a tender or a problem, but Motobatt batteries turned out best in this test, it's what I've been replacing the stock ones with as needed on my bikes.

Edit; That was the end of the test, the longevity test, most or all of the others failed, this is the complete test, lengthy but good. If I recall the Motobatt motorcycle battery started a v-10 truck engine 50 consecutive times, without recharging.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the recommendations. As mentioned by a few I should (key word being "should") be able to count on it for a couple of years...maybe I need to ensure I get a charging set up where I can hook up my Triumph Optimizer Charger without having to take off the seat and charging it up.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Thanks Tripps for the link...unfortunately they are currently out of stock:eek:, hopefully in a year or two they will have one in stock and I can buy it then:).

Thanks Tripp, you have taken the guess work (and leg work) out of a debated question. My battery has always been on the iffy side, and I think it's time. $120.00 is a lot better than $300.00
