My stock Yuasa just crapped out last Sunday before a ride. 2006 to 2013. I can't complain. I could not get another Yuasa on Sunday so I got one of those AGM batteries made in USA. Got a good discount because my wife is a college professor and the college has an account at that shop. $106 for 310 CCA. Forgot the brand name but will edit it in later.

Bill.

...maybe I need to ensure I get a charging set up where I can hook up my Triumph Optimizer Charger without having to take off the seat and charging it up.

Thanks again,

Dennis

If you hook up a 12 volt outlet to the factory leads on left hand panel behind engine it is "hot" so can charge battery without removing seat. The factory outlet is the smaller DIN type but if you open up the hole a little you can fit the larger cigarette lighter.

Many of the off brand replacement batteries do not have the hca (hot cranking amps) that the good batteries provide.

The stock Yuasa YTX20L-bs is a good battery, stay away from the BIKEMASTER replacements. The only really good copy is the Scorpion:
YTX20L-BS Battery | Scorpion 12 Volt Motorcycle Battery

If you want over-kill, Shorai sells a 36ah battery that weighs less than 5 lbs and has 540 cca. It is a LiFePO4 cell, so it isn't cheap (retails for $369.95). I have one in my bike, and another on the shelf I can let you have well under MAP. PM me for price.

My battery is good for now, but I was wondering about the Lithium batteries.

Any issues with vibration or heat compared with the Yuasa?

Living in Arizona, the batteries tend to deteriorate a little quicker here. If the Li batteries would give me enough added longevity, I could rationalize the extra dough.

I have used the Shorai batteries in race boats without issue, so vibration is not an issue. Hotter than around 125* F I have not tested, but I know quite a few guys we have sold them to in AZ.

Thanks Tripps for the link...unfortunately they are currently out of stock:eek:, hopefully in a year or two they will have one in stock and I can buy it then:).

Man, you are eat up with the new ride. Worried about a replacement battery 3 years ahead of time. lol:D

My '08 still has original battery.

The reason I am looking at extra starting amps in a battery is that even though I live in northwest Florida...it can get really cold in the morning and my previous Rocket was sometimes hard to start.

However, if I do keep the Triumph Optimizer hooked up overnight for maintaining my battery...it may not be a problem.

And R3 Guy...it's no wonder yours is still cranking as your R3 is garage kept...I don't have that luxury mine stays outside my side door to my house (where a convenient outlet is available):)

Thanks guys for all the inputs though...a lot of good ideas and choices are out there.

Dennis

Your idea of "really cold" may be somewhat different from those further from the equator. ;)
