I know there are other threads where this subject comes up but I'm starting a separate one to limit the discussion to just this subject.

I'm ordering new tires for my R3T. After doing some research, I just about decided on Avon Cobras front and back. I was try to decide between Avon Cpbras and Bridgestone Excedra Max "V" rated tires and it was pretty much a toss up based on what I've read in these forums. But before placing my order, I'd like to hear what others have to say. I remember reading that some reported excellent results with a Cobra on the front and an Excedra Max "V" on the rear. I do know that the Excedra Max rear tire has a higher load rating and and also a higher speed rating (V) than the Avon Cobra (H) and that's probably why some choose the combination but some "experts" say to not mix brand and types.

I'm not closed to having both Bridgestone Excedra Max "V" tires but, from my research, I think I'd at least prefer an Avon on the front.

I do often ride 2 up and often with a fairly heavy load. Other than that, I'm easy on tires and just like to cruise. I'm no hot dog.

What do you think? Recommendations? Experiences?

Speed rating shouldn't matter unless your trying to break 130

Really I don't think you can go wrong, both are good. I would expect the Max to last a little longer with the higher load rating. Both spin easily when cold on a cold day so there's no miracle tire that just always grips like for sport bikes.

I would look at the 200/60/16 for the rear as it is V rated. I know @Tripps is running a avon 200 on his touring lets see what he jas to say now that he has neen summoned

Yeah, I wasn't worried about the speed rating since I don't think I'll be going over 130 mph very often! (I rarely go over 80 mph.)

I had ordered the Avons from J&P Cycles and then read their customer reviews. Worst reviews for any company I've ever seen! I put in a cancellation for the order and, if it goes in in time to stop shipment, that gives me time to think about my choice a little more so I thought I'd ask the helpful folks here.

Just to clarify, my R3T is a 2015 with ABS so I want to be sure I don't mess up the ABS system.

130 mph, hmmm, that´s like 208 km/h. I didn´t know these monsters go that fast.

Btw. what is this thing about messing up the abs system? I don´t have abs, but I don´t thing my choice of tires would mess up anything, now would it? I´m happy with my Avon Cobras.

Factory speed limiter is set at 125mph, but with TuneECU or TuneBoy you can open it up. I've hit 150 mph when the motor was still stock. It'll do a lot more since the upgrades.

By messing up ABS, they mean if the rear tire is too different from the front, it will throw a code and the ABS light will stay on.

I used cobras on my 1400cc moto guzzi. they handled and performed well. got 12k on back tire. rocket has more torque probably get a little less depending on your throttle. did well in wet weather also!!

Yes, I´m familiar with the TuneEcu and have tried couple of different maps.

Still never tried the top speed. The tickets one gets around here for speeding are so ridiculous high that I cannot afford one and the top speed limit on freeway is only 120km/h which makes something like 75 mph. That is during summertime.

I had a set of Cobra's on the Rocket X and liked them. Much better than the stock tires. Got a little better milage out of the Cobras but not much better. Due to high milage riding have switched to a bridgestone car tire on the back and a Dunlop Elite Three on the front. No complaints.
