Australian tyre prices

I would be careful about doing a bulk buy as the local distributers may get wind of it and stop them from importing . They have been stopped before by Pirelli i remember this back when i had the M109r , the local boys could not purchase when the postage was to Australia .

Current retail on an Exedra Max is around $360, fitted and balanced. They're generally in stock and you can drop in whenever it suits you and have one fitted while you wait. Because the shop sells lots of tyres right now, if you brought a tyre in that you bought somewhere else, you'd get it fitted while you wait for about $50. Problem is if more and more people start bringing their own tyres in to get fitted, businesses will have to cover wages and equipment by charging more for fitting. Fitting cost could easily go up to $100 or even hourly rate - bags and pipes generally have to come off and be refitted and the whole job can take over an hour. You could also he slugged with a disposal fee of $20-$50 and balancing. Not only that, you'll be unlikely to get it done while you wait if the trend continues and will either have to make a booking days (or weeks) in advance and go to the end of the queue behind every tyre purchased on site. This isn't just gloom and a doom; it's happening. $173 plus $50 fitting now represents quite a saving. However, it could well lead to a situation where there's little or no saving and a lot of inconvenience. And who hasn't needed a tyre in an emergency.

Add it up. $173 + fitting $100 (or more) + disposal $35 + balancing $25. Then there's the need to book it in.....Is this what you really want?

Just sayin'.

This is the same in a lot of industries now , for me its a thorn in our side in the swimming pool industry . You can almost buy a pool cleaner from the USA delivered cheaper than trade pay from us . We get around it with no warranty on these products and we wont service them .

I hear what your saying however, I.M.O. it would take a considerable volume of tyres and customers to change market trends in service costs unless a very limited number of tyre fitter venues in one town. I agree it could be an issue if its a flood in a local small town with one tyre fitter. I will buy up here in Bendigo Vic , we have numerous options here. I pay a couple of beer to a mate ride in ride out. Just my 2 cents worth.

Best price I could get close to me was $370 and I had to take the wheels to them they didn't have them in stock said it would be about a week. So I made use of the info on the forum here. The market in retail is now a world market because of the internet. Just needed new tyres and no one seemed that interested in helping unless they wanted to rip me. Got tyres from the US in 5 days, had to take the wheels off anyway I supose its not for everyone just dont like people taking the piss thats all.

This is where it's heading. People selling tyres will over time either refuse to fit ones not bought from them or charge a fortune to do it. And they're already not stocking the low volume ones in case they sit there for years.
