I have friends that have lived in Cody over 50 years.
They TOTALLY agree with what you have stated.
The clowns in Jellystone think reintroducing the wolves is the bomb.
Just a few days ago, while visiting Jellystone and listening with my 4 year old g-son to Ranger Sally do a speech about this, I asked her why no mention of the impact to ranchers and hunters caused by allowing the wolves free reign without impunity?
Ranger Sally dodged me and went into detailed diatribe about the lack of carnivores allowed the herbivores to multiply to the extent they were destroying the eco system in the park. Go figure . . .
Wonder what Bison Bill Cody would say???

We have them in Texas And giraffes, zebras, kudu, etc. just ask those who rode the sisters
 
If I had to chose between a lot of elk, and no wolves, or a few elk and a few wolves, I'd prefer the latter. Just sayin'.

Nothing wrong with that opinion, Tripper.
Personally I be on the fence about it as I am not a hunter or rancher.
My caveat is just that I DO NOT trust whatever our gub'ment does or says.

All the animals you mention are not generic to North America and were brought over for "zoo" purposes.
Just learned I may be coming to Austin on business in March. How far are you from there?
