Well. started at the source under the tank and instant suspicion on the connector there, it was black. Which means road dust had been sticking to it more than the surrounding areas. Wiped it with my finger and it was a mixture of old gasoline and muck, unmistakable smell. Can't be a huge leak as there is no other sign of it, but possibly with a brimming full tank and road vibration it leaks and seeps back and down into the air filter box.
Gonna have to check the shop manual to see how much it should be torqued and see if it needs to be tightened.
