Well... Helen & I have now committed ourselves to join old mate mad Milligan & the lovely Maggie from Get Routed in our ride of a life time in 2011.

2010 is being used to prepare for this journey – Helen is talking about diets and get fit programs etc. Me = I’m telling her all we have to do is spend more time on the bike & get used to living cheap – (a wine, cheese, & bread diet) I think there’s going to be a battle of wills which no doubt she will win.

We’re shipping the Rocket Touring and camper trailer to Turkey & then taking 4 months to ride through Europe ending up on the Isle of Mann for the TT.

We’ll be riding through Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, & the Czech Republic & then across Europe to England.

We hope to take in a couple of MotoGPs & bike factories as well as many of the historical sites. The majority of the time we will be camping and staying away from the tourist strip.

Any advice/ suggestions / etc from experience are most welcome as to be honest the scope of what we are planning is scaring me way beyond ****less.

That sounds like an exellent trip!

I'm living up in Sweden, so that's off your route, but I do have a friend with a wineyard in Hungary, I can arrange for you to stay there for a night, they have couple of rooms for friends (and friends friends)

Sorry, ever since the yacht sank my globehopping has been curtailed. :p

WOW!
That sounds like the mother of all bike trips. The only advice I have is... Be sure and take lots and lots of pics and maby some footage so we can all live vicariously through your oddessy.

I can only wish you the trip of a lifetime with your upcoming adventure, Mick, having no eperiences that will assist with planning such an undertaking.

All I can say is "bon voyage" and if you and the Missus happen to come through New Jersey on your adventure, know that there is hot coffee, cold beer and clean sheets awaiting you!

Wow, what a trip!

I can only say that both you and your wife are right. You do need to spend some time in the saddle.. and the living cheap part can really be fun and take you to places that you normally would not go.. with the potential for great food and great memories! Being in good physical condition certainly would be a bonus, as you will not get fatigued as easily and be able to deal with any unforseen conditions, which you will certainly run into.. just part of the adventure!

When I planned my first long distance ride, from San Antonio, Texas to Rapid Springs, South Dakota, I started out riding longer rides locally, then took a full day ride out to Big Bend National Park and road the excellent roads out there. I was certainly glad that I did when I took off on the trip to South Dakota. The 2nd day of the trip, my buddy and I did over 900 miles.. mostly because one motel in the middle of nowhere turned us away because we were bikers.. We were about to break out our tents, when we finally ran across another little place that gladly rented us a room.. lol.

I've been on several long distance rides since them (none as long or exciting as your's sounds!) and I enjoy it so much.. can't wait for the chance to take another trip!

Helluva trip on an R3T!

Mick,

Sounds like a gem of a ride. There are lots of on-line resources for these types of trips.

Will you be updating a website so we can check your progress?

Dan

I spent eight days vacation in Greece in the early 90's while there I decided that I wanted to go into Turkey, well I could not, because they require a special visa to enter their country. Just make sure you get your passports well in advance and check into each country you plan on visiting to get all of the proper visa's/paperwork/and embassy phone numbers.Have fun. Rademis
