3xK&N + cut BC - done!

How much do the filter covers run to in Oz? And although slightly off topic - people keep talking about the underseat filter - is that on all rockets - does the roadster have it? and if so when I do the bear claw pods should I be doing the underseat one?

Cheers

Hey powder monkey when you put your triple k&N filters on under the bearclaw the under seat one will be removed oolong with all the piping that goes to it. U will be able to keep whatever u want under the seat then. I use mine for my wet weather gear .

I've been using the same covers on my Yamaha wave runner for years. A must for jumping waves. I can hose down the engine and have tried to get it to suck in water while it's running. Short of sinking your bike they'll keep the water out. I'll definitely buy them when I get the filters for my Roadster.

Sounds comforting, thanks redchevy.

I measured how high I wanted the cut from the bottom of each filter - rather than the bottom of the bear claw (meaning more would be cut from where the rear pod is than the front one). I then drew the line I wanted with a whiteboard marker, which is easy to rub out and fiddle with. Once I was happy I taped over the line with clear tape all ready to cut and protect the chrome. Then I chickened out so I've carefully copied the line to the inside of the claw, where it still is waiting for me to get around to it.

Trouble is I can't make up my mind.:confused::confused: For example Hellfire and Evil Mitch effectively did opposite cuts to each other - both nice. Then there's ro6ert's, which cut all of the scalloped part away, or a more extreme version is xhdskip's. These are also nice options if you want more exposed. And then to make the decision harder again, along comes albertaduke with holes drilled. Binnsy has bigger filters on his and he cut 'windows' for each pod, which is yet another option - very cool. There's plenty more. I just can't decide!:confused::confused:

One thing for sure, Dremel seems the way to go. Altho again, plenty of options - nibbler, tin snips, angle grinder........

I can tell you that I chose cutting towards the rear of the raised parts leaving the front to protect the filters from debris and water. Probably makes no difference at all, but that was the thinking behind it. It does tend to make the filters and Pre-filters less visible from the front of the bike, but it leaves me room to make deeper cuts later on. I'll probably change it up a little if I can keep her, have to see what the future holds.

To make the outline I covered both sides in masking tape and just drew lines where I was going to cut. The tape made it easy to make lines and protected the chrome from scratches.

I used the bigger cutting wheels for the dremil, not the little ones.
I'm sitting here looking at packages of both right now.
the number 426 are the little cut off wheels you change with a little screwdriver.
It'd take lots of them to do a proper job, maybe 4 or 5.
I use the bigger E-Z Lock ones (1.5") only takes 1 of them to do the job.
Myself, I just followed the line Triumph so graciously provided.
Had to redo the back mount as it was gone in the process,
but that ain't no big deal, and I think it looks ok, at least it's "different"...;)

Just about ready to take a picture of my new headlights...
you want to see different?
just wait....

my wife asked me years ago when I started doing mods,
"Why didn't you just buy the bike you wanted"
i told her "I did", "now I just gotta make it MINE".
i don't think she understood at the time,
but she's starting to now.. (I think):D
