2020 'R' model rear brake disc

My cobber has an 'R' model and has put 20000kms on it since May 2020 when he bought it. He has discovered the rear brake disc has some movement in it now...side to side a tad and back and forward a bit...it 'clicks' when it rocked back and forward. To me, this dosnt seem right and we checked mine and there is no side movement at all. there is back and forward 'play'. Is this something that may develop after 20000kms or is it loose?...It cant be tightened or checked when its still on the bike....He has been told its a normal development. but we are not so sure...

Floating discs are supposed to move marginally during use. It’s unusual I think for them to get quite loose, as normally the round buttons they float on actually get gummed up with brake dust so they don’t float properly and you can get judder.

yes its true the back and forward is normal, and i agree with the gumming up too thanx...its the 'sideways' movement which puzzles us...

Pretty sure my 06 has a side ways movement.

i think the pins have worn a tad ...theyre oval shape i believe and some brake clean sprayed in there may help if one is clogged with brake dust which can stop the pins from moving...we will see i guess.

Take it to the dealer and tell them they forgot to put the click in the rear brake and u just do not feel save with out a click and u know u r right because your bubby has the click and he can stop on a dime and get ten pennies change

Hi Tal, I saw your post on the Rocket 3R rear brake disc assembly. The bottom line - a little lateral movement in the rear associated with brakes can be a very real issue. Mine failed yesterday on a 200 km ride home. All the bolts that hold the brake disc and ABS together had departed apart from one that fell out on my driveway. I had recently had the rear brake pads replaced as part of my 42000km and the ABS was making the rear brake spongy again. That's what I thought the problem was until I finally found the condition of the rear hub (behind the wheel). See the photo. Off to the mechanic again. I can't fix that one and I fear the cost after inspecting the damage.

Hi I’ve got a rocket 3r 2020 after 7000 miles the rear disc came loose triumph sorted it out 19 months on and 4000 miles later the same thing has come back now triumph won’t do anything im left to fix it myself don’t know what to do for the best

I have just replaced my rear disc after 40,000kms it has had excessive movement for 20,000kms and I just didn’t feel comfortable riding the way it was anymore, you can do it yourself if you’re into DIY repairs, picture below is of old & new
