I would like to remind and inform members that RAA was started by those first that wanted to meet.
I believe, to the best of my knowledge, it was XHDSKIP that started it.
My first was #6 and it was amazing.
I met wonderful people that became true friends. Over the years I met even more great people and now I know that I can ride anywhere in North America and find help or a bed and meal.
i don't know how Maggie Valley became the spot for RAA but Rob and Gabbie at A Holiday Hotel are the best of the best.
They supported us beyond business motivations. They are more of a part of RAA than I am.
At some time RAA became a twice a year thing. Spring and fall.
Members began spreading this out.
The hub became a favorite for fall. Again, these people also became family.
Tradition became that several members would be road captains or tail gunners.
People were able to choose who they would follow each day.
A roll out plan and fuel/food stops were planed ahead of time with photo opportunities and excursion.
During the evenings someone had cooking set up for those that wanted to donate. Those that didn't would find a restaurant.
Third night in, we did a gift raffle. People brought donated gifts and tickets were handed out. Scott in Exile would read off the ticket #'s in his unique way and sexy attire so members would receive their gifts. Many gifts were useful but some were joke gifts. Eat, dance get drunk and have fun. No fighting to my knowledge.
This was the best of RAA.
Steve and Katy Scowherd lead all of this in perfect organization.
They were the RAA organizers!!!
Sad but they cannot do it anymore.
I miss them.
If those that attend this tenth year RAA would like to revive the true tradition of RAA, please speak up now.
I and others would hate to see this change to something less.
Riding with friends you didn't know you have is what this is.
Riding with trust and joy is what we did and hope to continue.
We are friends of the motorcycle life.
Let's keep it.
Love and miss my Rocket family that has passed or moved on.
