2008 Rocket Issues

It's a Rocket, that's all I can say....and one or another it's all that matters....for real differences are touring or not....take your preference.

You should check the vin number to see if it was produced after the update the cutt off was during 2008 production.

Warp, not sure what you mean. To what cut off do you refer? What happened after that VIN? I'm just not up on it.

And Big Gun, what is a damper bearing? I know that the his 2008 will have the normal issues that all bikes had but I was just concerned about those two major ones.

In any event, he's a darn good mechanic. On the way home from the Arctic Circle his TEX lost front oil seals which meant he rode the next 2000 miles over at sometimes real crappy roads with no front breaks because the fork oil had drenched the pads. I back to BC to meet with some Vulcan riders in Salmonberry and when I got to Gord's he had the Tex up on a lift with the front and rear wheels removed, the entire front end and the top end, the later to check the valves and install new shims.

I've suggested to him that he call Bob Carpenter and see if he could just buy the 240 HP upgrade kit instead of sending it out to him.

what you want to do is look for something in 08 with the last six of the VIN number higher then 337294 and you will be by that worrisome era. Anything higher already has the updated transmission goodies along with the new torsional damper bearings plus the rest of the changes.

Crap. I wish that I knew this and could have gotten the information to Gord before he purchased it. Thanks much.

Triumph put out a cheap much under-priced upgrade kit which many fitted retrospectively. So his may still have been upgraded whatever the Vin.

I don't think so. The owner has a machine shop and has no issues with the bike so I suspect it is a pristine Rocket.

I can be anal about this stuff and am just disappointed that there was information out there that I didn't know about and therefore didn't provide to my friend. With that said, I'm sure he'll have no issues and and I look forward to working with Gord on some ass-kicken' upgrades

The factory upgrade kit I referred too was to match the later factory modifications and was not a repair for a problem machine but was often put in by owners to guarantee they would not see the potential problems occur that were rectified by the factory mods to the later 2008 on models. Many owners probably have not had the mods fitted but have not had the problems show up either.

Mittzy, I referred to it as a Roadster because of the mid-controls and a vague recollection as to when that model was introduced. I thought it was in 2008. This is a bit of an odd web site on which it was advertised but take a look. The price asked is Canadian $$. He isn't paying that much for it. Isn't that a Roadster?

Harry, I'll ask Gord but the guys who probably knew/heard of Tom are the guys on advrider.com forum. Gord probably never got over to that shop.
Hi Mate,
I can see why you thought it was a Roadster with those foot raik. But it is not a Roadster but would be a standard - silver forks are a giveaway so it won't have ABS. Looks like a clean looking bike.
