As far a value is concerned, NADA or KBB may be good guides, but looking on Craigslist, Ebay and Cycletrader will give you a better idea of what people (dealer and private) are asking. What is actually paid is the unknown. I bought my "brand new" 2008 with 210+ pkg. and Carpenter header/pipe (which Bob removed, had polished and reinstalled -adtl $200) -directly from Carpenter Racing. I say "brand new" because it had 29 miles on it when I took delivery. It dyno'd at 227+ HP & 177+ lb.ft. I paid 2 large less than your asking. No, no Beetle Bags or other accessories. But I'll stick with my "new" bike and build it the way I want it. I've seen an '09 with 240+ and similar mileage, on Ebay for what you're asking. Timing (& luck) are everything. You've got a great looking bike, good luck to you.

I hear what you are saying and I am certainly open to offers.

If I'm not mistaken, bcskier, the '09 to which you referred was a relative basket case (compared to either yours or nelsonto's) that had been in a very bad wreck and was substantially misrepresented as to its condition by it's owner.

BTW, should it make you feel any better, you are not the first to piss all over this poor guy's listing.;)

I didn't intend to "piss all over his listing" -I spent well over a year selling my custom harley and looking at R3s and BMW K series bikes -and I have found that NADA and KBB are "guides" not bibles. They are useful tools, not the be-all, end-all in bike values. My main point is that timing (& a bit of luck) are everything -whether buying or selling.
Regarding the '09 -I saw it listed on Ebay last Memorial Day weekend. It was not a basket case, but a tribal blue beauty -not a basket case at all. After the fact, "ImFastToo" (Art) told me he knew of the seller. The bike was gone within a few days. It was a "more fair" comparison as it had Beetle Bags and similar mileage.

I know that what you posted wasn't necessarily intentional bashing, bcskier, but, please tell me, when you advertised your HD for sale did anyone else either take out a counter-ad to say that they didn't agree with your pricing or post a comment online questioning your valuation methodology?

As for the other modded bike that was for sale, maybe it was not the bike I was thinking of, but what is to be gained by your informing others that you've seen a better deal or lower price. You're clearly not in the marketplace for another R3 and nelsonto is clearly not engaged in fraud. Glad you got a great deal, but how or why does that make it OK to step on someone else's legitimate effort to sell his motorcycle?

What I see with this type of attitude/behavior is that certain folks (some maliciously-some innocently) seem to want to ensure that others who are trying honestly to sell their motorcycles will get absolute rock bottom prices for them. How does that help or best serve a community such as this other than topinsure that we all get the lowest prices possible if and when we attempt to sell our bikes here?

I had some input from others in the form of replies to my ad. I only listed on C/L and Cycletrader. Some "experts" tried to tell me I did not posses a Kenny Boyce FXR frame (I actually knew who built the bike, and that's exactly what I had.) The difference -it was a private conversation. That is not the case here.
I guess if you're posting in "For-Sale" here that's the risk you take (others offering their opinions.) I only defend my post because nelsonto asked for opinions on value in his original posts. Again, my main point is timing. Timing = you find a buyer for your bike at an agreed to price (& vice-verse, seller finds bike he wants...)
If you don't like others posting their opinions, it seems to me you're in the wrong place ;-)

And, BTW, if I had the '09 Blue Tribal with Beetle Bags and my Beast to choose from, I would have bought the '09...

I don't mind anyone posting their opinions,. Bubba, and that's why, just like you, I post my own, just as well. For the record, in my view, your attitude and stated opinion here stink.

For guys like Tod (nelsonto), the biggest risk they take by posting their classifieds here is that they get unhelpful potshots from wiseguys that either don't understand the difference between right and wrong, don't have the common sense or courtesy to keep some of their comments in the form of private messages or they really don't give a damm about the consequences of whatever they may choose to post up.

It's one thing if you know for a fact that someone's ad attempts to take advantage of or deceive the readership here, it's another thing entirely to supply negative feedback, solicited or otherwise, that hinders the possibility for a sale to occur.

The only correct thing we seem to agree upon, bcskier, is that the marketplace will ultimately sort it all out.
